With deep regret I have to report on the news today of the passing of ROWLAND SMITH

A dedicated club member previously of Birchanger and Quendon and lastly with us at Saffron Walden

A very talented bowler with a long career in the sport with Saffron walden he was club champion, north West Essex triples champion. North West Essex league champion.

But I'm sure the jewel in his crown would have been qualifying for the national finals in the county pairs for Birchanger in 2012

A great man and a great bowlerwho will be missed by all, may he rest in peace.

A summary of the 2024 season

In the North West Essex league the A team finished 2nd.

Unfortunately the B team were relegated and the C team remain in there division.

The seniors team finished Runners up

And the Sbbl team remain in there division.

In External competitions it's been a very successful season for the town

Steve Murphy finished runner up in the NWEBA champ of champ singles.

Steve and Alix Rouse narrowly lost out in the semi final of the NWEBA pairs.

In County competitions

Alix reached the last 32 of the singles

Alix and Roly Smith reached the last 16 of the pairs

Roly, Steve and Alix reached the last 16 of the triples

Alix and Tom Lesslie (Wanstead Central) won the junior pairs and reached the last 32 in the country.

Alix Came runner up in the county Junior singles and reached the last 16 in England.

Alix won the County Benevolent Singles.

The club was represented in group 2 games.

Congratulations to club captain Alix Rouse on qualifying for two national finals

Firstly a victory in the county junior pairs with partner Tom Lesslie in a repeat of last year's final making it back to back county titals for the pair.

Secondly an unfortunate runners up place in the junior singles after a spirited comeback to make it 18 all and eventually losing 21 18 a great effort.

A Busy week coming up for Saffron Walden.

Monday we play silver end in the Group 2 Memorial Shield

Tuesday sees Alix and Roly Smith play in the last 16 of the county pairs at Colchester

Wednesday A team play Quendon at Home
B team play Clavering at home
C Team play Dunmow Away

Thursday Alix,Roly and Steve play in the last 16 of the county triples at home against Brightlingsea

Friday the Bumpstead team play away at Steeple Bumpstead
