Ripon Concerts

👏⭐️We’re really enjoying the new season of BBC Young Musician. So many exciting, talented young musicians we don’t envy the judges!

Did you know we have a BBC Young Musician string category winner performing for us in March?
🎻Jaren Ziegler is a very special viola player and he’s giving the first viola recital Ripon Concerts has ever hosted. Featuring lush Romantic music by Brahms, Schumann, Schubert and De Falla accompanied by star pianist Kasparas Mikužis.

Fantastic concert this weekend from our friends St Cecilia Orchestra! Star pianist Martin Roscoe and some lush American Romantic vibes. What’s not to like?

We're delighted to welcome back Martin Roscoe as soloist in the opening concert of our 2026-27 season on 17th October at Ripon Cathedral, performing the Gershwin Piano Concerto. This will be the fifth time he has played with St Cecilia Orchestra and it is always a joy to perform with him!

'With an extraordinary career spanning over five decades, Martin Roscoe is unarguably one of the UK’s best loved pianists. Renowned for his versatility at the keyboard, Martin is equally at home in concerto, recital and chamber performances. His enduring popularity and the respect in which he is universally held are built on a deeply thoughtful musicianship and his easy rapport with audiences and fellow musicians alike.'

“This was brass music at its very best.”📯

🎺That’s the verdict of Christina Thomson-Jones, distinguished adjudicator on Connaught Brass who opened our 2026/27 season at Holy Trinity Church on 11th October. The acclaimed quintet came up from London and performed music by Rameau, Ravel and Debussy in the first half, then ragtime, jazz and Piazzolla after the interval.

⭐️We also enjoyed hearing Reuben Harford and Joel Buckley from Ripon Grammar School, who opened the concert.

Thank you to everyone who came, and to Christina for her generous words.
