There is something about coming home for Christmas.

Imagine the winter sky beginning to scatter with stars, the last of the light slipping through the trees, breath hanging in the cold air, cold noses and rosy cheeks. Then, through the gathering dark, Tyrrells Park appears ahead - its windows aglow, fires already burning, and the unmistakable sense that somewhere inside, Christmas is waiting.

Step through the door and the warmth gathers around you. The air carries woodsmoke, orange peel, cloves and winter spice, a hint of brandy, and something rich and buttery drifting from the kitchen.

Beyond the hall, glasses chime, laughter rises, and familiar voices carry from room to room.

For many Christmases, families have come through these doors to celebrate. Children have grown up between visits. Parents have become grandparents. Families have returned to familiar rooms and familiar tables, raising glasses to milestones, memories and those no longer seated among them.

And this year, we feel very fortunate to become part of that story ourselves.

A note from The Cellar at Tyrrells Park.

Today, Friday 11th September, The Cellar will be reserved exclusively for a corporate event from 12pm until 5pm.

We are very grateful for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you back this evening for good food, beautifully poured drinks and the warm hospitality we hope you have come to expect from us.

And there is a little something extra to look forward to tonight, too. The wonderful Marco Di Gaetano will be joining us for live music from 8pm.

Now, for those interested in the artwork…

I first saw a replica of Jean-François de Troy’s Le Déjeuner d’huîtres, painted in 1735, at Maison Ruinart in Reims. The family is convinced the bottles are theirs; their shape echoes Ruinart’s historic silhouette, although the attribution remains unproven.

Commissioned by Louis XV for his private apartments at Versailles, the painting depicts a gathering of aristocratic men over oysters and Ch*****ne, surrounded by silver, marble and gilding. Yet for all its splendour, the scene is wonderfully relaxed.

Its most memorable detail is the Ch*****ne cork caught in mid-air, sending the diners’ eyes upwards. Regarded as the earliest known painted depiction of Ch*****ne being enjoyed - proof, perhaps, that even in 1735 the opening of a good bottle could stop a room.

Our house Ch*****ne, Thomas Lombard, chilled and ready to pour - fresh and elegant, with white peach, crisp apple and citrus giving way to subtle notes of brioche and biscuit. Fine mousse, bright acidity and a gentle creaminess through the mid-palate, finishing dry, clean and beautifully refreshing.

Beyond the glass, the New Forest keeps its own quiet rhythm. Deer wander between the trees, squirrels disappear into the branches, hares move through the grass and birdsong settles softly over the woodland.

Find your place in the grounds. Somewhere to unwind, to linger, to belong. Let us pour you another glass and simply watch the afternoon unfold around you.

On Friday 28th August, The Cellar at Tyrrells Park will be reserved exclusively for a private event from 12pm and, as such, our restaurant and public spaces will be closed for the remainder of the day.

We are grateful for your understanding and very much look forward to welcoming you back.

For those who look forward to our weekly live music, we are pleased to be moving this week’s performance to Saturday, ensuring the tradition at The Cellar continues. This week, we welcome Charlie Morris to Tyrrells Park.

We are delighted to welcome you throughout the week, with our doors open Tuesday to Thursday from 5pm–11pm, and Friday and Saturday from 12 noon until late.

Should you wish to join us outside our usual opening hours, we are always pleased to consider private bookings and reservations with advance notice, wherever possible.

Each morning, breakfast is served for our in-house guests, with a small number of tables also available to non-residents by prior reservation.

Friday evenings remain a particularly special part of our week, with live music and a wonderful programme of artists joining us over the weeks ahead. We very much look forward to welcoming you for an evening of beautiful music, good company and warm hospitality.

Friday Nights at The Cellar

This Friday, we are excited to welcome back the exceptionally talented Marco Di Gaetano

When Marco took to the stage last time, he transformed the room with a performance that was as captivating to watch as it was to hear. Using his loop pedal as a creative powerhouse, he weaves together layers of guitar, vocals, and percussion in real time, crafting intricate arrangements from the ground up. Each new layer adds colour and atmosphere, gradually building into a sound far bigger than one musician alone. Seeing Marco create these rich, dynamic soundscapes live is a truly unforgettable experience.

With more outstanding artists scheduled each week, there is always something special to look forward to at The Cellar.
