Raise a glass to World Verdejo Day! 🥂✨

Celebrated on the second Thursday in June, today we shine a spotlight on Spain’s renowned Rueda region and a grape variety loved for its vibrant character. Known for its lemon and lime brightness, subtle herbal lift, and refreshing texture, Verdejo strikes the perfect balance between flavour and freshness, making it the ideal white wine for warm days, long lunches, and relaxed dining.

From today on our specials board is the beautiful Flor de Vetus Verdejo from . Expressive and elegant, it captures everything we love about Verdejo, with lively citrus notes, hints of fennel and fresh herbs, and a crisp, clean finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

Lovely stuff. Probably why Verdejo has become a favourite among white wine lovers around the world. Salud!

🍾 We’d been searching for a truly premium Champagne for some time. Not one of the familiar household names from the grandes maisons (that’s never really been Basil’s style) but a revered name in the world of grower Champagne.

So when a supplier suggested we sample , we were intrigued. Crafted by brothers with roots in the Taittinger lineage, these are Champagnes that quietly command respect. From the very first sip of their Premier Cru Extra Brut, we were blown away by its elegance, precision and remarkable depth.

A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from 40-year old vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne, it strikes a beautiful balance between freshness and complexity. In the glass, it shines with a bright golden hue and the nose reveals delicate aromas of white fruits and flowers, along with hints of brioche and honey. On the palate, it’s wonderfully refined: creamy and mineral-driven, finishing long with deep flavours and balance.

Proof that some of Champagne’s greatest treasures aren’t always the loudest names on the label. Find it on our BTB list now! 🥂

We’re thrilled to be part of this year’s , taking place 19–21 June! Celebrating the very best of local creativity across music, poetry, art and more, the festival is packed with events for all ages - and most of it is completely free. Come and join the fun!

What’s on at Basil’s:

🎧 Friday 19 June – Our resident DJs take over from 7pm, serving up the perfect soundtrack to kick off the festival weekend.

🎤 Saturday 20 June – A .reigate takeover, featuring a Young Poets Workshop at 10:45am and the adults’ Poetry & Spoken Word from 4–6pm.

🎷 Sunday 21 June – Wind down the weekend with the smooth sounds of , bringing the festival to a stylish close.

🪑 Our furniture gets a lot of love at Basil’s, and for good reason.

Creating the continental feel we wanted took a bit of searching, but we eventually landed on the designs we now see from . Looking back, there was a moment when plush sofas and lounge chairs were in the running - but these European bistro chairs and stools turned out to be exactly the right fit.

Paired with durable laminate inset tabletops, colour-matched to our branding and the main bar top, everything came together to create the cosy, intimate neighbourhood wine bar atmosphere we had in mind.

Eighteen months on, they’re still looking as good as ever. And when you see some of the other venues that trust Inside Out with their furniture projects, it’s reassuring to know we’re in good company.

Grab a seat, and a glass, and see it in all its glory for yourself. 🍷✨

Today we’re celebrating one of the world’s most loved white wines - one that it took us months to find the right one for Basil’s, and now we have two!

Happy International Chardonnay Day 🥂

Few grapes can claim the global love and versatility of Chardonnay. From crisp, mineral-driven, unoaked styles to rich, buttery, full-bodied expressions, it’s a grape that adapts beautifully to its surroundings and the winemaker’s hand. Its hallmark balance of fruit, acidity, and texture makes it one of the most food-friendly wines out there - a true cornerstone of modern winemaking and a timeless favourite for good reason.

In the glass today is . A pure, precise expression of Chardonnay in its most mineral-driven form, with bright citrus, green apple, and a signature flinty edge. 🛑 It’s not often a wine truly stops us in our tracks - the kind that makes you place an order on the spot. But .agr_gianfrancoalessandria’s “Vittoria” Barbera d’Alba did exactly that.

Deep, intense ruby in the glass, it opens with vibrant acidity and layers of ripe red fruit (think cherry and plum) wrapped in subtle spice and soft vanilla from careful oak aging. On the palate, it’s beautifully balanced, with silky tannins and a versatility that makes it just as at home alongside pasta as it is cured meats.

A true expression of Barbera from Alba, where tradition meets thoughtful modern winemaking - finishing long, harmonious, and deeply satisfying.

Less than three weeks until hosts the next bracelet-making workshop at Basil’s!

It’s always a relaxed, creative 90-minute workshop where you’ll create two bracelets with all materials provided, no experience necessary, plus a glass of wine and a few nibbles included too.
