My renovation project for this week was this 1971 Ferrari Daytona tool roll and what a history behind it.
When the current owner purchased the car the tool roll was missing. He contacting previous owners but unfortunately they had no idea what had happened to the tool roll. By chance he got the contact details of the daughter who’s father had purchased the car from new. He owned several properties one being a chateaux in France. He had passed away a few years ago and the daughter was in the process of clearing out the chateaux ready to sell.
She remembered the tool roll but had not seen it for many many years so wasn’t very positive of finding it. However after clearing out one of the wine cellars there it was covered in dust amongst empty bottles of wine.
The current owner purchased the roll and had it couriered back to the UK. A few of the tools were missing but it is now back with this beauty of a car.
The roll is made from Italian vinyl which is still in very good condition. As you can see the leather parts have all perished over the years and all needed replacing.
I used Metropolitan 2.5mm Lyveden Chestnut for all the straps and buckle pieces and new buckles and loops from Abbey England.
The handle is made of 2 thicknesses of the same leather and handsewn.
Being a Ferrari fan this was an absolute pleasure to be given the opportunity to work on a piece of Ferrari history.
