Help Save the Red Lion!

Dear Residents of Basildon and Supporters of The Red Lion
Following a lengthy period of legal scrutiny with our lawyers at Forsters as well as other local parties, please find attached our Lionheart Basildon Bond Club agreement duly prepared and now ready for signing.
Since first drafting the agreement, some important additional features have been incorporated into the document:
1. This is a membership scheme for contributors (members) to gain enjoyment and benefits from a revived Red Lion pub.
2. The LBBC scheme is designed to raise one third (£450k) of the funds necessary to acquire and revive The Red Lion Upper Basildon.
3. By request there are now 3 levels of membership: Standard £3k, Silver £6k and Gold £9k. Both Silver and Gold will attract an additional benefit of 10% and 20% discount at The Red Lion Upper Basildon for the term of the membership.
4. Membership funds will be held in a separate Monzo account (see the agreement) to be used solely for the purchase and renovation of The Red Lion.
5. Membership starts from the pub ‘opening date’ defined in the agreement as 2 Apr 2027 or earlier, with a longstop date of 31 Dec 2027.
6. If for whatever reason the transaction does not go ahead, or the pub does not open on time, or the site is sold to a third party (change of control), all contributions made, will be repaid in full to the LBBC members within 14 to 30 days.
We are confident the attached agreement covers off the important safeguards required of all participants.
On a positive note we have over 200 registered enquiries, of which, over half have declared an interest in committing to a standard or silver membership. There is a small number who may wish to take up a gold membership. It is difficult to predict the outcome of this offering, so please do pass the word around so that this circulates amongst all interested parties. We are very hopeful of reaching our £450k target for the revival scheme to go ahead.
It’s important to complete the membership form at the end of the agreement, with your reference code, email and house address when transferring your membership contribution to the designated Monzo account.
We will also email you a copy of the agreement. Please email the signed agreement to [email protected]. The agreement is effective upon receipt of your contribution whether it be a standard, silver or gold membership.
It now remains for the process of signing the agreement to begin. We will run a daily tracker to confirm a statement of funds received, together with an update to keep you all posted on the acquisition timing for exchange of contracts.
To thank those who have committed to the LBBC and to provide those who would like to sign up in person, we will organise a pop up tent and bar in the car park at the pub in upper Basildon . We invite all those of you with availability to drop in for an early evening refreshment and to hear of the progress achieved on Friday 14 August from 5 pm.
