Jane Eyre
Based on a novel by Charlotte Brontë
Adapted for the stage by Mark Jowett

Prologue
Creepy music, dry ice, eerie cackling, figures running around, a mad figure running loose, then others restraining her until she subsides …
Images on screen of countryside rolling past and the sound of a horse and carriage on a journey… JANE appears, at first silhouetted by the images, becoming increasingly lit as images of the journey fade behind her…
Jane Eyre is a classic 1847 novel by Charlotte Bronte, following the life of an orphaned, intelligent young woman striving independence, love and self-respect in Victorian England. Jane overcomes a cruel childhood and a tumultuous romance with the mysterious Edward Rochester.
Our production begins from the time Jane steps into the grounds of Thornfield Hall after gaining employment as a governess.
If you would like to be part of this exciting production of JANE EYRE the auditions will be held at the Oasthouse Theatre on Tues 26th May 2026 at 8pm for full members. If you would like to audition but are unavailable for the audition date, please leave a comment below.

Please note that rehearsals will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8pm – 10pm and nearer the performance date from 7.30 – 10pm. A Sunday rehearsal will take place at 10am on the 6th September. Depending on ticket sales, we may add a matinee performance on one of the Saturdays.
A rehearsal schedule will be available at the time of the first read through rehearsal.
Please let me know of any rehearsal dates you will be unable to attend due to holidays or prebooked events at the audition.
CAST
JANE EYRE: The narrator and protagonist, described as plain-featured, intelligent and strong willed. She values her moral integrity, freedom and equality, refusing to be treated as a subordinate.
MRS FAIRFAX: The warm matronly housekeeper at Thornfield Hall. She is a widow and the highest-ranking servant, she provides essential stability and comfort to Jane, acting as a surrogate figure of domestic normalcy while shielding her from the estates dark secret.
GRACE POOLE: Servant- severe, strong, loyal with a frightening presence.
BERTHA: Insane, feral, sad, once beautiful. (a very physical non speaking role)
MR ROCHESTER: The moody, wealthy and troubled master of Thornfield Hall. Despite his dark demeanour, he falls in love with Jane, viewing her as his intellectual and spiritual equal, though he is harbouring a dark secret.
