South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club (SCYC) has been hosting Abersoch Dinghy Week for over 50 years.

2023 dates are Saturday 22nd July (registration) with racing from Sunday 23rd till Friday 28th July. In 2022 we introduced a new modern racing format for the main fleets with committee boat starts beyond the moorings, and two shorter races per day with varied courses, taking advantage of the fabulous

waters of Cardigan Bay. The new format still allowed competitors to enjoy time on the beach or elsewhere on the Llŷn Peninsula with their families / friends. The Intermediate and Coached Regatta Fleets came under the organisation of the inshore race team, using courses set inside the Moorings, with the Intermediate Fleet racing in the mornings and the Coached Regatta Fleet (introduced in 2019 for young / inexperienced sailors new to racing) racing in the afternoons. Daily prize givings, beach BBQ, meal in the Cove and live music in the Bar were just some of the social activities included in the week. ADW COACHED REGATTA FLEET

⛵️The Coached Regatta Fleet is aimed at sailors with some experience (whether on inland waters or the sea) but who are new to racing, with a target age of under 13, but an upper age limit of 16. The Fleet will typically comprise a mix of Optimists, Toppers, RS Teras, etc., and offers an introduction to open-water racing in a relaxed learning environment. Ideal for those wishing to take part in their first event, racing (and race training) takes place round short courses off the beach. The ethos is for more experienced sailors and parents to welcome and encourage those with less experience, helping with tasks such as rigging, launching, and offering general advice about kit, etc. ⛵️
