We helped save our pub!

Our Boomers Speaking Gen Z video attracted 3.7 million views across social media and was nominated for TikTok Video of the Year 2025.

But the real story is what actually happened.

At the request of our hard-working committee, we used social media to promote the campaign, attract Crowdfunder donations and investments, and ultimately help the community buy the Elm Tree Inn.

Around 1,600 Americans donated or invested in the campaign, alongside other supporters from the U.K., Europe and beyond.

The pub reopened in July 2025 and is thriving, welcoming visitors from the UK and all over the world.

We’re proud to have played our part in a remarkable community achievement. 🌳🍻

🍹 Meet Colonel Duke — a rum punch with pedigree!🎖️

A family recipe passed down through generations of the Duke family, originally from Montserrat. Our cousin Alan, visiting from Canada, shows us how it’s done!

The classic Caribbean formula:
🍋 One of sour (fresh lime)
🍯 Two of sweet (sugar syrup)
🥃 Three of strong (rum)
💦 Four of weak…

But the Dukes had other ideas — in place of the ‘weak’, substitute with a few ice cubes instead! 😂 Add Angostura bitters and freshly grated nutmeg and you’re done.

This batch is named after our great-uncle Colonel Duke, a First World War hero who became Commissioner of Police in Barbados in 1939… before getting himself fired! 😂

The Colonel’s legacy lives on — and judging by the tasting, he landed the last punch! 🍹❤️
