Huge thanks to Chris Brown at Aber Falls Distillery for providing a fab tasting on the Halewood whisk(e)y range for the North Wales Wh**ky Group. There were some very pleasant surprises, in particular the Bonningtons Cognac cask and the Aber Falls cask strength samples that he managed to get hold of from as yet unreleased bottlings. Their cask strength samples were excellent and we're really hoping that Aber Falls bottle these at a higher ABV to show off the quality of the spirit they have produced. A great day, enjoyed by all 🥃

So.... today we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the operations and aspirations of the Yorkshire Dales Distillery, thanks to our wonderful host, Tony (Anthony Brotherton). After a warm welcome, he left us in Dave's capable hands to do some mashing. Tony then took us through their end to end process, with some interesting interludes such as sampling the wash and seeing my buy back cask in the flesh! We ended up in his 'tasting room' sampling the wonderful new make spirit. We first tried the new make over a year ago and can honestly say it's the best we've tasted, for me it's reminiscent of a very good Austrian schnapps and I can't wait to taste the wh**ky when it's ready. We wish Tony the very best and really hope his plans and dreams come to fruition. Oh, and after all that I had the first 'proper' walk since my ACL op in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, so feeling great! 🥃

A different kind of post today... we couldn't spend time in the Ch*****ne region without visiting Paul Launois! What a fantastic couple of hours we spent with Julien being educated in his process and the single barrel project (the same barrels that find their way to Ardnamurchan after holding his base w**e for 11 months).. It was every bit as fascinating as a distillery visit 🍾🥃

Sampled an eclectic range tonight at the Golden Promise bar in La Maison du Wh**ky. Great that they offer a 1cl or 2cl pour as most of the drams require deep pockets! 🥃
