Wow… what a day! 🤯

Our bakery launch couldn’t have gone better and it’s all thanks to you! We gave away 100 free pastries to celebrate - and they were gone before 9am! Then, unbelievably, we completely sold out by 4pm. Absolutely mind-blowing 🙌

A huge shoutout to the amazing team who made it all happen - Darren & Logan in the bakery, our Head of Food Andy, GM Theo and everyone who worked so hard on the day. We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you!

We’re beyond grateful and so excited to do it all again tomorrow. Doors open at 9am—we’ll see you there! 🥐💛

Merry Christmas from Mettricks Portswood 🎄💛

Merry Christmas Southampton, with love from Mettricks 🎄💛

As we sign off at Woolston, turn the ovens off at our Portswood bakery, and serve last minute shoppers at WestQuay, we’d like to thank you, our home city, for all of your support in what has been an incredibly challenging 2025.

Our teams are ready for a well earned Christmas break, with Guildhall, Woolston and Portswood now closed through to 2nd January. Mettricks in WestQuay will be open from Boxing Day to help caffeinate any post Christmas shopping right through to the New Year.

This year we’ve had to make some tough choices and stop doing things we could no longer support financially, as the tax increases and price rises have continued to hit our industry (unfairly) hard. We know we haven’t got everything right. And it’s certainly way tougher going when the tides turn and optimism is in short supply. But, we’ve worked tirelessly and tried our very best throughout.

Looking ahead to 2026, with huge business rates rises on the cards, things aren’t going to get easier. But our promise remains the same as it was 12 years ago: to work every day to Bring Better Coffee (roasted by us) and Fresh, Tasty brunch to our home city all the while creating coffee houses with a home from home feeling, described as Southampton’s Living Room by one of our very first customers, filled with friendly faces to create warm, welcoming spaces for everyone 💛

Join us this evening for our last late night opening at Mettricks Portswood (open until 10pm) for the foreseeable future.

Like many independent hospitality businesses, we’re facing an incredibly tough period. Rising costs across the board, alongside recent budget increases in taxes and employment expenses, have placed huge pressure on our industry and made it increasingly difficult to operate evenings sustainably.

As we work hard to secure the future of Mettricks, we’ve had to make some very difficult decisions. From tomorrow, we’ll be pausing all evening openings at Portswood until further notice, except for private hire events.

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s supported us during our evenings over the years especially our regulars. Your loyalty has meant more to us than we can ever properly express, and we truly hope to bring late nights back when circumstances allow.

If you value independent, locally owned businesses, please consider where you choose to spend your hard earned money. Your support makes a real impact and will be the difference between a multi billion US$ private equity owned (Trago Lounge) and tax dodging, Luxembourg and Isle of Man registered (Coffee #1) dominated Broadway - and one where fellow local independents can survive and thrive here in Southampton 💛

Morning Coffee Club starts TODAY - £3 coffee til 10am ☕️💛

Introducing the Mettricks Weekday Coffee Club - helping get Southampton up and started in the morning, with all regular coffees hot or cold for £3 before 10am Monday-Friday all of August and September at all of our coffee houses ☕️💛

It’s as simple as that ☀️. No catches, no loyalty app - just great value speciality grade coffee, roasted by at Mettricks Portswood. (And if it proves popular, it might just stick around - help us to help you during these tricky financial times 😊).

So, whether you’re a flat white drinker, iced latte slurper or cappuccino sipper all regular coffees are £3 pre 10am - drink in or takeaway.
