Good afternoon members,
This is a summary of Sunday’s Members’ Meeting, ahead of the full minutes being published.
Firstly I'd like to thank all those who attended the meeting, it was one of the best attended for a long while and hopefully sets the tone for future meetings and members attendance, as it is your club so your input is invaluable.
Bar Tariffs
We reviewed the recent changes to bar tariffs. Although the brewery introduced price increases in February, these will not be passed on to members, so prices in the upstairs Members’ Bar remain unchanged.
We have introduced guest prices, which are higher and will be clearly displayed on the tariff board. These will also apply to visiting sports teams.
To receive members’ prices, all members must present their membership card at every purchase. If a card is not shown, the guest price will be charged. Please ensure you collect your card from bar staff once you have renewed or joined.
Recent Improvements
The committee noted several positive developments, including:
- A reduction in the Sky Sports bill
- The introduction of staff uniforms
- The new glass collection area
We also now have a full quota of band nights booked downstairs. The committee welcomes suggestions for New Year’s Eve band options that we could approach.
Under‑16s in the Club
Following recent incidents, the rules for under‑16s were discussed. By majority vote, it was agreed that:
- Children are welcome in the club with no curfew, provided they are supervised at all times by a parent or guardian.
- This includes when children are playing pool, snooker, or darts—parents must remain with them at all times.
- If a child’s behaviour is considered unacceptable, members should speak to a committee or staff member, who will address the issue with the parent or guardian.
- Parents may be warned if supervision is insufficient, and continued issues may result in being asked to leave.
Some upstairs members’ events may be designated adult‑only at the committee’s discretion. This will be clearly stated on event posters and social media.
Downstairs Members’ Evening events in the Sorting Office will remain adult‑only.
The same process applies to unacceptable behaviour by adult members—please raise any concerns with staff or a committee member so they can be handled appropriately.
Dogs in the Club
Dogs remain welcome as part of our community. However, it was agreed that all dogs must be taken off the premises to relieve themselves.
This decision is based on health, safety, and hygiene concerns, including:
- Heavy foot traffic in the smoking area
- The risk of unpleasant conditions
- The presence of beer barrels that staff handle and that contain consumable products
This rule takes effect immediately. If this rule is not complied with, the committee may consider sanctions, up to and including not allowing dogs in the club, with the exception of assistance dogs.
Further details of the meeting will be published in the minutes in due course and posted on the committee noticeboard.
