MATCHDAY 8 (DEVON CUP)

On Sunday, we faced a tough test against Inter Plymouth, who currently sit two leagues above us and had beaten Hooe Rovers just a few weeks ago. We knew we’d have to be at our very best to come away with a result!

After some consideration, we decided to switch up our formation to suit the squad and the conditions on the day, and it certainly paid off, with the lads putting in a brilliant performance from start to finish.

We started brightly, creating some good opportunities but struggling to find the back of the net. Eventually, the deadlock was broken by Besty, following some great pressing from Jordan down the right flank to create the opportunity.

Unfortunately, our keeper Ruffles picked up a knock, meaning Liam had to put the gloves on. For someone who has barely played in goal, he certainly didn’t disappoint, pulling off some huge saves throughout the game and showing great confidence coming off his line to shut down opposition attacks… even if that confidence occasionally got the better of him…

We also had Moon filling in at right back for the day, putting in a great shift in an unfamiliar position. Moon also stepped up to take a free kick and absolutely placed it perfectly into the top right corner.😮‍💨

After we dominated much of the first half, Inter came out with a much more positive approach after the break and really put us under pressure. The lads had to dig deep, putting in some serious backs to the wall defending towards the end to protect our lead. Every single player played their part in seeing the game out.

The final whistle confirmed a fantastic 2-1 away victory, sending us through after a brilliant cup upset against opposition two divisions above us! The lads were absolutely buzzing, and rightly so.

⭐ MOTM – Niko Ieronymaccies
There were great performances all over the pitch, but Niko was a standout at left back. He seemed to win absolutely everything that came his way and led by example throughout the game.

Best of luck to Inter for rest of their season.

MATCHDAY 7

A frustrating one for the lads today, with 4/5 players missing through injuries and the Butlin’s trip, while another 5/6 players were making their way back from a heavy weekend away to play today!

With no recognised goalkeeper available, we had to make do with a makeshift keeper, but fair play to Gallsy for stepping in.

We started the game brilliantly, going 3-0 up and looking really comfortable, playing some excellent football and fully deserving our lead. Unfortunately, conceding just before half-time made it 3-1 going into the break.

Changes had to be made at half-time, with a few lads understandably flagging after a heavy weekend, and we lost our grip on the game. We conceded three sloppy goals in the second half and ultimately threw away a game we had been cruising in.

We dust ourselves off, take the lessons from today and look to bounce back next week.

MOTM - Harrison Martin⭐️
A great performance from Martin today, contributing two assists and a goal. Well deserved, mate! 👏⚽️

MATCHDAY 6

We knew it was going to be hard to try and play our football at Vicky Park & the pitch definitely made a massive part in the game for both sides!

We started well with a good finish from Reggie to put us 1-0 up, after this Firkin Scholar applied some pressure and after a few defensive mistakes we were punished and conceded 3 goals.

A well worked move down the right flank saw the ball drop to Jordan who managed to put away his goal after the rebound. 3-2 HT

We made some half time subs and everyone kept working hard to get ourselves back in the game. Our Captain Doddsy went down after Vicky Park claims another victim…

Tom Harris then scores from just inside the opposition half to bring the game back to 3-3, then 10 mins later goes down injured after a challenge from the Firkin defender.

With the game coming to a close we created one more chance, Liam cut inside took it pasted the Firkin defender & then faked the GK leaving himself an open net to smash the ball home!

Doddsy has ligament and tendon damage & our Star Player, Tom Harris has a broken fibula. Two massive losses to the side we wish them all a speedy recovery💜

MOTM - Josh Gofton⭐️
A presence at the back throughout. Made some big tackles and clearances at the back end of the game to help the team! Well in Gofton👏

MATCHDAY 5 (KEN RICKARD CUP)

We started well with some tidy possession football and passages of play leading to key chances.

We went into an early lead but just couldn’t seem to keep the clean sheet attack out after conceding a solo goal from their winger and a sloppy goal from a free kick meaning we went into the break 3-2 up.

The second half continued in a similar fashion but eventually the Maurice lads managed to pull away with Liam scoring 4 and goals from Jack, Lew, Besty & Tom.

A great game to watch with both teams having plenty of chances and the two teams challenging fairly throughout.

MOTM - Tom Harris⭐️
Back to back MOTM’s for Tom, gives it 110% every week. He was all over the pitch creating chances, tackling and grabbing himself a goal!
