🎉 CONGRATULATIONS, KEEP ME CLOSE & ERME VALLEY RDA!

It's George here, and I'm saying it again because it deserves saying twice: a huge congratulations to my two Charities of the Year, Keep Me Close (Plymouth NICU) and Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled.

You both did brilliantly, and I can't wait to get started. We've got a whole year of collections, raffles and events ahead of us, and I want to make every bit of it count for you.

🎃 NOT A FAN OF HALLOWEEN? HIDE OUT WITH ME

It's George here. Tonight the streets will be full of witches, zombies and little ones trick-or-treating. Lovely to see, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

So if you'd rather swap the screams for a bit of peace and quiet, come and hide out with me. No fancy dress, no jump scares, no doorbell going every five minutes. Just the fire lit, a proper pint, a comfy seat and a good old natter.

Come with your other half, bring a mate, or pop in on your own. There's always someone at the bar happy for a chat.

🏆 MY CHARITIES OF THE YEAR ARE…

It's George here, and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits. 1,607 of you voted, and Plympton has spoken.

My two Charities of the Year are:

🥇 KEEP ME CLOSE (PLYMOUTH NICU) – 359 votes
What a result! Keep Me Close helps families stay close to their tiny babies on the neonatal unit, right when they need it most. So many of you told me how they were there for you, your friends and your families. That's exactly why you voted for them in your hundreds.

🥇 ERME VALLEY RIDING FOR THE DISABLED – 265 votes
Brilliant work, everyone! Erme Valley RDA gets disabled children and adults in the saddle, building confidence, strength and big smiles along the way. Huge congratulations to the whole team and all their volunteers. You've earned this.

For the next year, both of you are MY charities. That means collections on the bar, raffles, events and anything else we can dream up together. We'll be in touch this week to get started. Our first fundraising night is Friday 6 November, with Phil Han Solo live in the main bar. Come along and help us get off to a flying start.

It's George here. That's it – the final vote for my Charities of the Year closed at midnight.

Thank you, Plympton. Over 1,250 of you voted for ten brilliant local causes, and every one of them should be proud.

Now I'm counting every vote, with the same rules for all ten charities. Anything that comes in after midnight can't be counted, I'm afraid.

The top two become my Charities of the Year, and I'll reveal them TODAY, Saturday 31 October, at 12 noon. Keep an eye on my page.

🎸❤️ LIVE MUSIC FOR CHARITY – FRIDAY 6 NOVEMBER

It's George here. Put Friday 6 November in your diary, because it's a big one. It's my very first fundraising night for my two new Charities of the Year. You're choosing them in the final vote right now, and I'll announce the winners on Saturday 31 October.

The brilliant Phil Han Solo is playing live in my main bar downstairs, with guitar and vocals from 7:30pm till 9:30pm. It's free to come in.

I've been through every single vote by hand: one vote per person, and your first one counts. At 8pm tonight I'll reveal the top ten charities going through to the final vote.

A quick word before I do. Charity of the Year is for registered charities only, so the ten going through are all registered charities. If your group isn't a registered charity but you're raising money for a good cause, I'm always happy to help. Come and talk to me about hosting a fundraising event in the Phillips Bar, our function room.
