Hi Folks,

We’re looking forward to another brilliant night of laughter at The Folly on Monday 1st June — great food, fantastic comedians, and the best comedy venue in town.

Set in the beautiful vaulted upstairs room, with its warm candlelit cosiness, it really is something special.

Opening the show is Neil McFarlane, who began his comedy career in Scotland over 20 years ago and remains a regular at the highly regarded Stand Comedy Clubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Neil’s dry, laconic style and relaxed delivery have made him a popular MC and support act across the British Isles and beyond.

In the middle spot is Andrew Watts, one of the most talked-about new acts on the comedy circuit. His distinctive style and original material mark him out as one to watch. Formerly a solicitor in London, Andrew is now a full-time comedian and writer based in Wiltshire. His debut Edinburgh show, I Wish I Could Be Like Andrew Watts, received excellent reviews, and he’s rapidly building a strong reputation on the club circuit.

Closing the show is Ronnie Golden, whose CV reads like a who’s who of British comedy and rock ’n’ roll.

As a teenage guitarist, Ronnie worked with musical legends including Tom Jones, Scott Walker, Engelbert Humperdinck and even David Bowie before forming cult late-70s renegade band Fabulous Poodles, whose album Mirror Stars outsold both The Clash and The Jam in America in the early 80s.

Within weeks of the band’s demise, he became a founding member of the legendary Comic Strip alongside Rik Mayall, Ben Elton, French and Saunders, and Alexei Sayle, and appeared as Buddy Holly in the first series of The Young Ones. A regular contributor to Spitting Image, Ronnie finally scored a number one single with The Chicken Song / We’re Scared of Bob.

A refined gentleman of music and comedy, Ronnie will close the evening with charm, wit and effortless skill.

Advance bookings are just £25, which include your main course and reserved seating at a table. Please pop into the Folly Downstairs Bar, or call them on 01730 719564 for reservations.

£10 tickets on the door after 6:30pm on the day, no reserved seating but we'll try to find you a seat somewhere. But it is probably better to just come in around 7pm, have a great meal, sit back and let the world disappear in fits of laughter.

Join us for a warm, welcoming night of pure entertainment.

See you there,

Chaz

Hi Folks

We're looking forward to another great night of laughter here at the Folly on Bank Holiday Monday, 4th May. Great food and fantastic comedians at the best venue in town! A candle lit cosiness in the beautiful vaulted upstairs room it really is something special.

Opening the show is Karen Bayley from Birmingham who has been on the circuit for over two decades. She made a name for herself early on in her career reaching the semi-final of the prestigious BBC New Comedy Awards and was later crowned the winner of the 2001 Komedia New Act prize. Delightfully saucy, her friendly and confident stage presence, combined with a killer wit, an infectious giggle and some devastating one-liners make her a comedic force to be reckoned with.

On in the middle is the wonderfully silly El Baldiniho, a magician and prop comedian performing on TV, in comedy clubs, at festivals and at corporate events across the UK and beyond. Recently seen on Britain’s Got Talent (where he got 4 yeses) he can also be seen headlining family friendly comedy events across the UK.

Closing the show is the Legend which is Martin Davis who skids and bounds across the stage, strung up and tugged around by unknown forces, firing off a relentless rapid-fire assault that hits every corner of the room. Martin is the Jolt Cola of the circuit. Consumer advice would read: connect up the microphone, shout “clear!” and stand well back!

Advance bookings are just £25, which include your main course and reserved seating at a table. Please pop into the Folly Downstairs Bar, or call them on 01730 719564 for reservations.

£10 tickets on the door after 6:30pm on the day, no reserved seating but we'll find you a seat somewhere. But it is probably better to just come in around 7pm, have a great meal, sit back and let the world disappear in fits of laughter.

Hi folks,

Looking forward to seeing you all on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th April. We’ve got a brilliant show lined up (don’t we always?) and the usual great atmosphere in the best mid-sized space in Petersfield – The Folly Upstairs. We’re pretty lucky here in Petersfield: loads of great venues, something always going on, and a comedy club that’s been running 27 years. Over that time we’ve seen new acts become big names, and some still drop in to try out new material… so you never know who you might spot before they’re on TV a few years later. Speaking of which, our closer has done a fair bit of telly – read on…

Opening the night is Canadian comic Darryl Purvis. Originally from Antigonish (great name), Nova Scotia, he did a business degree to keep his parents happy before getting on with what he really wanted to do – comedy. He’s recorded his own TV special and performed across North America, playing the best (and some of the worst) gigs going. Now he’s in little ol’ England and loving it.

In the middle, rising star and superb storyteller Elle Bert. With quick wit and natural charm, she’ll take you by the hand and lead you on a hilarious wander down the garden path.

Closing the show is Bobby Mair – Darryl’s mate, and yes, another Canadian (I can’t help it, they’re funny). Bobby’s been in the UK for years, headlining up and down the country, and has appeared on shows including The Hour, Russell Howard’s Good News, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats and more.

It’s going to be a superb night, as always.

Doors open 6:30, show starts around 8pm, and we’re wrapped up by about 10. If you’re eating, try to arrive in time to order and finish before the show – around 7 ideally, but no stress, just get here!

Tickets are £25 including a main meal and reserved seating.
Unreserved, ticket-only entry is £10 on the door from 6:30.

See you there,

Hi Folks

Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday, 2nd March at The Folly Upstairs in Petersfield. It's such a wonderful, atmospheric room, one well loved and regarded on the comedy circuit. It also hosts a monthly Jazz night on the third Tuesday of the month which has been hugely popular and is now regularly selling out.

Back to the show!

Our opening act is Dom Hatton Woods. Booking Dom is complicated due to his full diary and the fact that he lives Up North. We've finally managed get him by hitching a ride on the back of a weekend of gigs down south. Expect dark, honest, and painfully relatable stand-up that’ll make you laugh, wince, and question your life choices.

On in the middle is Louise Leigh who is living proof that a midlife crisis doesn’t have to involve a Harley Davidson and an underwear model (yet). Award-nominated Louise Leigh wanted to do comedy when she was sixteen, but it took her until her forties to get round to it.
Our closing act for the night is Tom Little, an award-winning comedian, writer and actor. He won the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year (an award also won by acts such as Johnny Vegas, Jason Manford, Rhod Gilbert and Romesh Ranganathan) and was a BBC New Comedy Award finalist. I'm trying to think how to describe his live set,,, I think I'll just light the blue touch paper and let you all find out for yourselves!
I'm really pleased with this line up and it's just what we all need to kick March into gear, laughing our way into forgetting the ghastly, wet, windy and cold start to the year. That along with some wonderful food will really perk everyone up.

Doors open at 6:30, show starts 8pm.
Tickets are £25 and include your main meal and reserved seating.
PLEASE NOTE
As we're all sadly aware things for many of us are tight. The government has recently had to ease up on it's taxes on pubs after a huge petition to save venues. The Folly is doing ok, but they are still feeling the pinch. We had a choice to increase the price, or to remove the free drink with a full price ticket. we've kept the full ticket at £25 but it no longer includes the free drink. Sign of the times...

Unreserved, ticket only, is £10 on the door from 6:30

Hi Folks

Looking forward to seeing you all for the first show of 2026 at the Folly Upstairs on Monday 2nd February. It's going to be a lively, cracking lineup with an American theme.

Opening the show is UK act (ok, i know I said American but bear with me) and an old friend, Mr Cole Parker. Cole exploded onto the comedy circuit in 2000, to great critical acclaim. In the same year he was nominated the UK’s best new comedian. He's gigged most places over the last 25 years, sometimes more than once! Over the last decade he's been based in Los Angeles (see) continuing both his stand up and his acting career. Sharp, slightly twisted and very on point it's going to be a pleasure to see him.

Middle act for the night is Italian (wait for it) American Mike Capozzola. Mike is a New York-raised, London-based comedian who's performed all over of USA as well as the UK, Europe and the Middle East. TV & Film appearances include: “Men in Black International” “The Batman”, “The Phantom of the Open” and “Locked Up Abroad”

Closing the show is Dave Fulton from Idaho (tadaah!). Dave's special, he's from Idaho and he has a passport (his words not mine). Dave has travelled round the UK on his motorcycle for 25 years, and the states for many years before that, nailing it wherever he goes. He also acts, writes, directs, drives cars in movies and builds beautiful motorcycles. Somehow he's also managed to marry the best looking MET Police Officer in London, but that's another story.

Doors open at 6:30, show starts 8pm.
Tickets are £25 and include your main meal and reserved seating.

Kicking off the night in style is UK comedy favourite Tim Clark. With his razor-sharp wit and effortless charm, Tim sets the perfect tone from the very first laugh—an opener guaranteed to get the room buzzing.

Next up, all the way from Canada, the brilliantly funny Michelle Shaughnessy brings her smart, confessional stand-up to the stage. Warm, bold, and whip-smart, she’s a crowd-pleaser who leaves audiences wanting more.

Closing the show is headline act and bona fide UK comedy legend Arthur Smith. With his iconic deadpan delivery and unmistakable storytelling, Arthur rounds off the night with the wry, wonderful humour that has made him a national treasure.

Hi Folks

Come celebrate 26 years of The Petersfield Comedy Club, at The Folly Upstairs in College Street. Originally funded by the first National Lottery funded grant from the Arts Council the club has seen so many of the comics you see on the TV now. Mickey Flannagan, Kerry Godliman, Gary Delany, Jimmy Carr, Andy Parsons, to name but a few. We're still getting hilarious comics through the door, many with TV credits. Sometimes though, it's the people you've never heard of that you simply can't understand why they aren't filling Arenas. We're really proud of the club and being part of something that make people lose themselves in side splitting laughter. You really should come and see for yourselves.

Anyway, this coming Monday, 1st September, we have Nick Page, Mark Maier and Alexander Bennett on the bill. Each one a very different, unique performer and worth a Tenner of anyone's money. Or you could treat yourself to a delicious main course and a house drink for £25, which guarantees you a seat at a table.
Advance bookings for £25 tickets from the Folly, in person or by calling 01730 719564.
£10 tickets on the door after 6pm on the day, no reserved seating but we'll find you a seat somewhere.

It's always a party at every show we do, just this one's a little bit special.

The best possible start to your week.

Hi Folks

Looking forward to August's Comedy night this coming Monday, 4th with another stellar lineup for you to enjoy.

Opening our evening is the supremely talented Maureen Younger. She's frank, fast, feisty, sharp and engaging – honest humour with attitude! In 2023 Maureen reached the finals of British Comedian of the Year and was placed third. In 2024 she was one of the acts performing at the Best of British Showcase at the Adelaide Comedy Festival. Regularly appearing in all the biggest clubs in the UK she's always a hit wherever she goes.

On in the middle is Steve N Allen who many of you will have seen on TV on the BAFTA nominated BBC2's The Mash Report and the Dave version, Late Night Mash. A veteran of the UK comedy circuit over 20 years, Steve is a class act with wit and charm by the lorry load.

Closing the show sees the return of the wanderer, Mr Gordon Southern. Gordon was in Australia when Covid broke out and ended up being stuck over there for ages! Not one to sit idly by, he built on his already impressive Aussie Festival reputation and became a firm favourite on the circuit over there. He's heading back there mid August so we're lucky to catch him before he's off on his travels again. Warm, engaging and cheeky, Gordon will close the show with his usual extraordinary talent.

Tickets for the show are available from the Folly Downstairs (in person or by calling them on 01730 719564)
A reserved table with a main meal and a house drink is £25/person
Unreserved seating is £10/person on the door after 6pm

Show starts at 8pm and will finish around 10pm.
If you're eating please arrive as early as possible so you can relax and eat your meal, which then allows us to clear you table before the show.

Looking forward to seeing you there
