The kids have officially broken up for half term, the weekend is here, and we’re kicking off our SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN EVENTS PROGRAMME at The Sun Inn, Pooley Bridge! 🎃🍻

🎉 CELEBRATING OUR TEAM – HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM! 🎉

From everyone at The Sun Inn and Oddies, we want to wish Tom a very Happy Birthday! 🎂🍻

But today isn’t just about celebrating his birthday. It’s about celebrating the person, his journey and everything he’s achieved in such a short space of time.

Now, here’s why we’re celebrating… ❤️

Tom joined our team back in March as a chef, looking for a fresh start, a relocation and, most importantly, an opportunity to learn how to run a pub from back to front.

Little did we know just how much of an impact he would make!

In just a few months, Tom became a vital part of The Sun Inn. Someone we could rely on, someone who wasn’t afraid to get stuck in and someone who genuinely wanted to learn every aspect of the business.

Then, in mid-August, Tom approached us with a question…

“Can I manage Oddies?”

And what a decision that turned out to be!

Since taking the reins at The Oddfellows Arms in Keswick, Tom has thrown absolutely everything into it. His time, his energy, his dedication, his ideas and quite literally the kitchen sink!

Tom is an all-or-nothing kind of person. He doesn’t do things by halves, and he’s certainly proved that.

He’s gone from being a vital organ of The Sun Inn to becoming the pumping heart of Oddies. ❤️

And what he’s created is something pretty special.

☀️ By day, a welcoming destination for tourists visiting our beautiful Lake District.

🍻 By evening, a proper community pub where locals can come together, friendships are made and everyone feels welcome.

🌙 And after dark, a hub for the hardworking people of the hospitality industry. A safe, welcoming place where those who spend their days looking after everyone else can finally relax, unwind and be looked after themselves.

That’s not something you can simply teach someone. That comes from passion, personality, determination and genuinely caring about people.

Tom hasn’t just taken over a pub. He’s helped give it a heartbeat, a personality and a real sense of belonging.

And while there is still so much more to come, we couldn’t be prouder of what he’s achieved already.

So today, Tom, we celebrate YOU. ❤️

You’re always the first to put everyone else before yourself, but today, for once, it’s all about you! 🫶

Not just for the hours you put in or the work you do, but for the person you are, the ambition you’ve shown and the difference you’ve made to both our pubs.

🎄🎅 CHRISTMAS IS COMING TO THE SUN INN, POOLEY BRIDGE & THE ODDFELLOWS ARMS, KESWICK 🎅🎄

Today, Team Sun Inn and Team Oddfellows hit the road and headed to South Shields for our Christmas Regional Meet Up! 🚗🎄

To say we were in the Christmas spirit would certainly be the understatement of the year! 😂🎅

It was fantastic to get together with other teams from across our region, share ideas, have a few laughs and, most importantly, look at how we can deliver THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER in our pubs for our wonderful customers! ❤️

We’ve already got some really exciting events and activities planned, and today has given us even more inspiration to make this festive season one to remember! 🎁✨

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Christmas meeting without FOOD! 😋 We were lucky enough to sample some of the delicious festive menu, which launches in mid-November, and let’s just say you’re in for a treat! 🍽️🎄

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a fantastic day and bringing all the teams together and the The New Crown for being wonderful hosts.

This group sums up everything we want our pub to be. One of our locals on his own and a group of ladies on their first visit to The Lakes from London / Essex. Meeting and chatting and enjoying each others company on a wet day in Ullswater.

One of the most beautiful things about a traditional pub is the opportunity to get to know others.

Our intimate setting at The Sun Inn creates something really special. It encourages conversation, brings strangers together and allows friendships to grow naturally.

People arrive as individuals, couples, families or groups of friends, or just their dog, but before long, conversations begin between tables, stories are shared and laughter fills the room.

Different ages, different backgrounds, locals and visitors, all brought together under one roof.

In a world where so much of our communication happens through a screen, there’s something wonderful about sitting down, looking someone in the eye and having a proper conversation.

And that’s what a good pub should be. Not just somewhere to eat and drink, but somewhere to connect, feel welcome and become part of that moment.
