CLOSURE
I am sad to announce that Herdwick Inn closed permanently from the 3rd March 2023. This has nothing to do with the viability or finances of my company Gourmet Inns Limited but rests wholly in the rather strange behaviour of Admiral Taverns, the property owner through which we had a tenancy. We were looking forward to the refurbishment Admiral Taverns promised and introducing a new Seafood & Grill Restaurant into the converted barn, as well as developing some excellent outdoor pizza and blini facility during the summer months.
My agreement with Admiral Taverns was a short tenancy prior to refurbishment, following which a five year tenancy was offered… as advertised publically. This was an implied contract which Admiral Taverns have reneged on, using the instrument of the short term tenancy at will to take back the property. Apparently, they do this quite often and illegally.
The whole matter is now with my lawyers and soon the Serious Fraud Office. Partly, because the only people at loss here are my companies, although the Community have lost the use of the pub unecessarily. Partly, also because of the fraudulent behaviour of Admiral Taverns personnel.
I cannot see, in the circumstances, the pub reopening whilst it remains in the hands of Admiral Taverns, whatever they do. They simply said the Herdwick Inn was not viable, but this is patently untrue.
