Notification of Works – Main Road, Elderslie (Linwood Toll – Newton Avenue)
John McGeady Ltd on behalf of Renfrewshire Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing and roundabout improvement works on Linwood Toll and Main Road, Elderslie from Friday 9th to Monday 19th October. To allow the works to be carried out safely, temporary road closures will be required to be in place. This is to protect the public and our team carrying out the works. Due to the extent of the works and location of the works the traffic management will be phased as detailed below.
A full closure is required to allow the works to be carried out safely and to provide sufficient curing time for the surfacing material prior to reopening the roundabout. This is particularly important given the high volume of heavy vehicles and turning movements at this location.
The closure of Linwood Toll Roundabout will commence at 20:00 on Friday 09th October 2026 and remain in place until 06:00 on Monday 12th October 2026.
Our contractor will undertake overnight excavation works on Friday 09th October, followed by daytime surfacing to complete the resurfacing works at the roundabout over the weekend.
Following the reopening of the roundabout, the diversion route will be amended, and works will continue to complete the remaining surfacing on Main Road Elderslie. While the traffic management arrangements will be phased, the full closure of Main Road will remain in place for the duration of the works. Priority will be given to reopening the roundabout by the morning of Monday 12th October. We currently anticipate that works on Main Road to Newton Avenue will be completed by Monday 19th October.
During the works, McGill’s Buses will be running a shuttle bus service between Linwood Toll and Johnstone Centre. The service will operate daily between 07:00 to 00:00 throughout the closure.
To ensure residents and businesses are kept informed, our contractor will undertake a letter drop to properties within and adjacent to the works area prior to construction commencing. The letter will provide details of the planned works, anticipated timescales, traffic management arrangements and any temporary impacts that may be experienced during the construction period. It will also include the contractor's contact details, enabling residents and businesses to raise concerns, report any issues encountered on site, or seek further information throughout the duration of the works. This will provide a direct point of contact and help ensure that any site-related matters are addressed promptly and effectively.
Pedestrian access to all properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
Emergency service access will be maintained at all times.
Vehicular access to properties within the works area will be facilitated by the contractor whenever it is safe to do so. To minimise the risk of vehicles entering through the main closure point at Linwood Toll, access will be managed via the closure point at Newton Avenue.
