Music and Jazz at St Giles

Music and Jazz at St Giles Jazz at St Giles’ There is no car parking at our venue. Walk, cycle or use Park and Ride. Details are on our website.

Many churches dedicated to St Giles, the gentle saint, stand outside the walls of busy medieval cities, as though seeking the silence that he found in his own cave in the 7th century, but all too often, as in the case of Oxford, the rapid growth of our towns has engulfed these silent places, and our St Giles’ today is poised between the suburbs and the city itself. Our Concert and Jazz series has

been designed for wide appeal and to bring new friends and visitors into our lovely and traditional 12th Century 'country' church to experience the fine natural acoustic in a variety of musical styles from ancient to modern.

We are thrilled to welcome our patron, Jacqui Dankworth along with Memphis-born pianist Charlie Wood, back to Jazz at St. Giles' featuring songs from her new album 'Windmills'.

The evening will feature one of the ensemble's hallmarks: their very diverse interpretations of a wide range of jazz genres, including songs from the famous standards repertoire. Expect plenty of foot-tapping, up-tempo material, (Jazz Beatles + quality rock 'n roll) and more modern modal jazz (Chick Corea), folk jazz (Scarboro' Fair), a jazz-classical piece (Andy Scott's 'Everything is Still'), and post-bop instrumentals with harmonized vocals. Do join us!
