JazzSoc - Oxford University The Oxford University Jazz Society: The centre of the Oxford jazz scene Out of lockdown we host weekly jazz nights on Tuesdays at 7 pm at the Mad Hatter.

JazzSoc is Oxford University's official jazz society, the place to be for players and listeners, dancers and drinkers. These usually kick off with a performance by a special guest musician, before we open up the stage and jam the night away. These are open to anyone and everyone, so get yourself involved and don't miss out! JazzSoc is brought to you in association with The Mad Hatter, one of Oxfor

If you’re looking to close out the term with a sha-bang, then there’s no jazz-tification for missing this well-loved group: The Oxford Keytones! 🎤🎶

As Oxford Uni’s premier small jazz band, we are sure you’re going to love what they bring to the stage.

Choo-choo! Here comes the weekly jazz train. 🚂
Hope you’re geared up to see some of London’s finest performers at the Mad Hatter this Wednesday at 20:00… Jazzsoc presents to you the Jakub Klimiuk Quintet to chase away those week 5 blues! 💃🔥

Jakub Klimiuk Quintet, fronted by the eponymous Polish jazz guitarist, is a London-based ensemble that fuses influences from the Scandinavian improvised scene and contemporary New York jazz, creating a sound full of exciting tension. The band’s recent album ”(un)balanced”, featuring one of the UK’s modern jazz pioneers, the saxophonist Mark Lockheart, tells the story of seeking balance in today’s reality, manoeuvring through the overwhelming deluge of information and striving to discover inspiration in everyday routine.

Attention Oxford jazz lovers, 🚨 🚨 🚨
Don’t miss your chance to see the UK jazz phenomenon, ‘Aspyrian’, at the Mad Hatter, Cowley (OX4 1EA) on WEDNESDAY 16th OCTOBER, as we kick off the academic year! 2022 awardees of the Help Musicians UK Record/Release Fund, ‘Aspyrian’ are a London-based trio blending jazz with an array of folk music traditions from different corners of the world. Influenced also by an eclectic mix of soulful songwriters and alternative bands, the result is an ensemble sound that is captivating and truly unique. The group features:

Robin Porter – Saxophones 🎷
Jack Gillen – Guitar 🎸
Matt Parkinson – Drums 🥁

Aspyrian’s recent single releases have seen thousands of streams and have been selected for multiple prominent jazz playlists. As well as jazz from other places? Aspyrian, Semper, Jakub Kimiuk Quintet all coming live to the MAD HATTER , WEDNESDAY from 8PM-MIDNIGHT. Jazz Soc committee applications now OPEN! The form will be active until 1st of August at which point we will conduct interviews. You can apply for President, Secretary, Treasurer, Tech Rep or Crew Member- and the form has more details about what each of these roles entail. Being on Jazz Soc committee is a great opportunity to network with both student and professional musicians, grants you free entry to all jazz soc events and looks good on a CV- as well of course being a great way to hear good music and make friends! If you have any questions feel free to reach out by DM, email or in the comments.

Oh me, oh my, its the Oxford Keytones! Coming to Jazz Soc Tuesday at the Mad Hatter, Iffley Road! One of the most beloved small bands in all of Oxfordshire, it's not one you want to miss! What better way to procrastinate Prelims revision?? As always there will be an OPEN JAM until 11.30 after the main set. Student entry a sweet £3, Public £5, and there's student rates on food and drinks ! (Cocktails only £5!)
