It's Friday...means our plan of being a productive member of society can be temporarily put on hold.
Usual time: 8 – 11.30 pm,

The Bar will be run by Heather and Jojo (spoken the Spanish way, with a hint of Dutch) tonight. Please be nice to them.

Important Reminder:
Please remember: if you want to bring guests, you are more than welcome to do so! BUT, it is your responsibility to let them into the college gates and out again. Our porters are amazing, but they will not let people in or out of college if not in company of their host! Indeed, they will get pretty angry! So please make sure to meet your friends at Pembroke gate, and let them out again. Violation of this rule may cause you and the MCR quite some trouble, so make sure to meet your friends at Pembroke gate, and let them out again. No exceptions!!

As you will come to realise over the next year, tonight is the most important night of the week. It is the night when the mysterious hatch in the Pembroke MCR opens (8 – 11.30 pm) to reveal a wide selection of more or less classy beverages served at an extremely affordable price. Combined with the amazing and diverse crowd of Pembroke postgraduate students that will gather there each Friday, it is hard to image a better place to mingle with your friends and meet new people. We recommend you practice you signature dance moves, as we will most certainly go out afterwards.

Pembrokians,

Regardless of whether your week has been on the rocks, or whether you just want a neat night. Tonight is bar night. A standard bar night.. But if you have attended before, you will know standard does not mean not awesome…

I’m going to be straight with you, it is too whisky to go anywhere else, and if you do, it is likely tequilya.

I know some people may not appreciate these puns, but, as bar manager, I’m all about the boos, and for all you haters, quit wining and get in the spirit.

The facts:

Cocktail: Whisky ginger £1
Rose’s Recommendation: In honour of our neighbouring tower - Bath Tub Old Tom Gin & Tonic £2.50
Thistle’s Tipple: Hoegaarden - a beautiful Belgian beer - £1.50

Bacon snacks and everything - so let's get hammered..

As we all know, alcohol is technically a solution.. Come down and I’ll show you the proof. Hatch up at 8pm, down at 11.30pm and we will see if these puns manage to (d)rum up some customers..

Dear all,

It is with both great joy and a heavy heart that I am tasked with letting you know that tonight may well be Robert O’Shea’s last bar night for a little while.
Please come along to commiserate our loss and to celebrate his progress in writing up. If he isn’t topless dancing on a table by 11pm we’ve failed him.

We are trying something a little new from this week. As well as the beer and cocktail of the week we are going to both recommend a drink, which will be normal price, to highlight some of the fantastic beers and spirits we have now accumulated.

Beer of the week: Grolsch
Cocktail of the week: The RoS: A gentleman’s classic for our favourite gentleman. Gin and Tonic with slices of cucumber

Rose’s recommendation: Hobgoblin Ale, £2
Probably Oxford’s most famous beer. A ruby coloured brown ale brewed by Wychwood, down in Witney.

Thistle’s Tipple: Jack Honey Ginger £2
Long awaited in the UK, mix of regular Old No 7 and a spiced honey liqueur. Combined with Ginger beer to up the spice even more and topped off with a wedge of lime.

Survivors,

Many of you will be receiving this in a distant land, back home, enjoying the festivities with family and friends. Even though this may be the case we know your heart remains in the Pembroke MCR.

For those whose heart, and the rest of their body, is still in Oxford, we will be ensuring that Friday night tradition is maintained.

The Rose & Thistle will be open from 8 pm and will be serving a delicious Mulled Cider (for £1) to warm you up in this baltic 12C winter weather.

Fellow compatriots,

Yes. Today is the end of term, and for some of you, the end of your first term at Pembroke. To mark the end of a great term, we will go out in some form of style with Christmas Bop tonight in your very own Christmassy-decorated MCR with delicious drinks being served from your very own Rose & Thistle.

As it is Christmas Bop we will be hauling out the cauldron and brewing up 10 litres of delicious Mulled Wine. As a Pembrokian, it is your responsibility to ensure this does not go to waste. £1 a glass.

£1 beer of the week is Carlsberg, alongside 5 brand new beers, and there will also be some Hot Toddy prepared by you lovely secretary Heather.

If you come along in full festive attire, your first £1 drink will be paid for by Santa!

As if this wasn’t enough, we will be providing free pizza arriving at 8.30pm.

Oh, how we spoil you.

Pembrokians,

As you will have already heard, tonight is a very special night, wherein the new runners of the MCR are decided. Hustings start at 7.30pm, and to restore normality after all this unnerving change we will be having our usual, warm, comforting, delicious, thirst-quenching bar night at 8pm.

£1 beer of the week - we have a shelf of different ones this week so come and see for yourself (or pay the extra 50p premium for a whole range of others)
£1 cocktail - Dark & Stormy - Rum and ginger beer topped off with a slice of lime

Also, there is whisky.

The drink of the week this week will be seasonal spiced mulled cider and the beer of the week is Budweiser 66.
Soft drink of the week will be a fruit juice concoction with fresh lime and a hint of spice :)
