Dear Supporter,
Following our update a while ago, The team have been busy in the background and we would now like to invite you to a public meeting on Wednesday 3rd June at 7.30 in Polebrook Village Hall.
We will present the full proposals, why we have made the choices we have what the business plan looks like and how you can help by investing or donating, plus plenty of time for questions.
This is an important next step in our efforts to save the Kings Arms so please make every effort to come.
We expect the meeting to last no more than an hour.
Thank you.

Save The Kings Arms - Update to Polebrook Residents 10thMarch 2026
There has been a huge amount of work going on in the past few weeks and we thought it appropriate to update you all on the current status of this.
The Kings Arms was successfully registered as an Asset of Community Value on the 27th February 2026 by the Parish Council and North Northamptonshire Council. This notes the importance of the pub to the community and also provides a moratorium period of six months for the community to bid for the pub should they wish to. It is important to understand that, under current legislation, the seller is free to sell to whoever he likes after that period regardless of relative bid values. On the 3rd March 2026 the current landlords submitted notice of an intention to undertake a ‘relevant disposal’ of the King’s Arms to North Northamptonshire Council, triggering the commencement of the moratorium period. We will need to express a desire to be treated as a potential bidder within the next 6 weeks in order for the moratorium to continue for the full six months.
One of the key considerations here is how best to structure ourselves in order to constitute an appropriate body to purchase the pub, both from a donators/investors perspective but also from the perspective of the wider community for the long term. As you will expect we are working with bodies familiar with community acqusitions of this type, principally Plunkett UK and CAMRA but also with many pubs that have gone down this route previously. We expect to be in a position to recommend the best way to proceed imminently.
In parallel with the above the important task of assessing the level of interest in funding the acquisition has been making good progress and many of you have generously pledged money for this for which we thank you. There is still a long way to go and whilst we continue to assess grant funding options and crowdfunding if you would like to help or have a conversation about doing so please contact Kieron Maughan (email [email protected] ) who is handling this aspect.
The other major workstream that is being progressed is the building of a business plan for the pub in order to be sure it can be a viable business for the longer term. We believe that with some changes this can be achieved and believe it will be a sound investment for the community. When the business plan is finalised we will, of course, share it with you.
Once again we thank you all for your interest and generous pledges and will update you again shortly.
If you would like to be added to our email list, as not everything goes out via the village email or Facebook please email [email protected]
Thank you

400 Followers! WOW! Thank you
We appreciate things have been quiet over the last couple of weeks, lots of activity behind the scenes.
We have 2 things to share in short term and will have more information next week.
- It is confirmed the pub will continue to operate in its current form for the time being,
- As part of getting in some extra custom the pub will be screening all the 6 nations Rugby games

Thank you for following our page, as you probably have gathered the future of The Kings Arms Polebrook, is currently in jeopardy.
We have formed a village group, and here is our latest statement.
If you are interested in helping, sharing social media, fundraising etc etc, please share our page and also you can subscribe via email to [email protected] for updates

Following on from your tremendous support last week and ongoing support on social media we thought we would write to clarify the ‘Save The Kings Arms’ groups purpose and summarise the immediate next steps.
The groups aims are quite simple.
• To prevent the Kings Arms from becoming closed for any significant period.
• If it were to become necessary to successfully challenge any change of use application
• To look in detail at what and how a community owned pub would operate and if it came to it to develop a campaign for the funds to be raised and appropriate governance structures to be put in place.
In the immediate future we now have 4 workstreams with owners in the team for each
1. Engaging positively with the landlord on his future plans so we could secure the best outcomes in the context of our aims.
2. Working with CAMRA, The Plunkett foundation, legal advice and various support groups so that we learn from others experience and can take the right steps when they are required.
3. Building up a future pub business plan which could either be presented to a potential buyer or part of a community owned operation.
4. Running a successful social media and preliminary fundraising campaign that demonstrates the value which the pub is held by the local community and its surrounds.
Case history says the combination of all of these will be critical to us achieving our aims.
As you can imagine there is much complexity in the next steps and likely some sensitive discussions which need to be private.
We promise to share as much as we can and thank you for your ongoing passionate support, the many offers of help and interesting valuable suggestions.
