The Salutation Keyworth Nottingham

The Salutation Keyworth Nottingham The earliest recorded evidence of the Salutation being used as an Inn is in 1675 in the Nottingham Sessions Roll of the Inns of the county.
(268)

At this time there were two licensed houses in Keyworth, the 'Hammer and Pincers' at the North, or Church end of the village, and the 'Salutation' at the South end. In 1800's the 'Hammer and Pincers' gained an evil reputation for cock fighting, man-fighting and disturbances of the peace and the Inn disappeared from public records. This means that the Salutation, or at least parts of it, is the old

est Inn still in existence today. These days the Salutation is a friendly, family run pub serving fine food and real ales. Food serving times are:
Monday - Saturday 12- 9pm
Sunday - 12pm - 5pm

Booking is advisable for dining Monday - Sunday

We have a childrens' license until 9:00 pm with conditions that can be viewed on entry.

Hello Keyworth,

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the temporary closure of the Salutation.

Since we came in December, it has been a pleasure to spend time with so many of you and we are so proud of how far we’ve come since then. From the dodgy ale taps at the beginning, to navigating running a pub built for food without a kitchen, to creating communities with our weekly quizzes, live music and curry nights, it’s been an incredible journey for both of us.

Christmas was a perfect welcome to the community with Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve being nights we will never forget.

From Fearghal’s perspective, running The Salutation was an amazing experience, after many years working for others in the industry lovely to be able to put my own mark on a pub and a play a part in a lovely community. It was a steep learning curve and the hours were tough but getting to spend time with all of you made it all worthwhile.

The decision to step away was purely a career decision and not a reflection of the pub, or Keyworth or anything like that and the support I received in making that decision was incredibly heartwarming. I am immensely proud of some of the things we managed to achieve in our short time in Keyworth, and I am extremely optimistic for the future of the pub, it is just a shame that in the short term this decision has had to be made. When I handed Ryan the responsibility of running the pub I was initially apprehensive as he had only stepped behind a bar for the first time around 6 months prior, but watching him work and put his own spin on the place was a joy to watch. Constantly putting your all into something every day without a break, however, can take its toll on your health and relationships. I am extremely hopeful that this isn’t the last you’ll see of Ryan and I hope this break will allow him to refresh and come back better than ever.

From Ryan’s perspective, it was a tough ask managing a site like this with so little experience. Whilst I enjoyed massively building day by day to try and get the pub to a place that I could be happy with, the job has proven to be slightly above my current capability. I’d have loved to keep it going until a more permanent landlord could have taken the reins but at this point I’ve had to make the decision to prioritise my own health and relationships with friends and family, most of whom I’ve not seen since April.

I couldn’t be more grateful for the help and support that all of you have shown me the last few months as I know that the Sal holds a special place for many of you and it’s been a pleasure to try and keep it going the best that I could. As a whole I think I will definitely look back fondly on these last few months and come to realise just how much I’ve learned and grown though the ups and downs. Again It’s been an absolute pleasure and I hope to see the Salutation back to its best for all of you under more permanent stewardship in the near future.

Lastly, we would like to thank everybody who has come in and spent time with us at The Salutation over the last 7 and a half months and we can’t wait to see how it grows over the next couple of years.
