A few snippets from our team trip to barcelona for 🌞

Some amazing drinks made by some of the top bars around the world, all served in the most stunning venue.

The festival had a big focus on sustainability and had talks and masterclasses throughout the day with street vendors and djs as well. All hosted by the wonderful 🌴

Susana Baca stands as a guardian of Afro-Peruvian heritage. Through her work, cultures once at risk of being erased were preserved, documented, and rightfully recognised as part of Peru’s national identity.

During the 19th century, Scottish merchants arrived in Peru as part of expanding global trade routes, bringing with them textiles, engineering knowledge. With them came cultural exports including whisky. They helped finance infrastructure projects and modernise aspects of Peru’s economy.

By integrating ingredients that speak to Nikkei ( Japanese ) precision, Chifa ( Chinese ) depth, and Afro-Peruvian roots, the cocktail becomes a liquid tribute to cultural resilience honouring the communities that shaped modern Peru.

This drink tells the story of how cultures from around the world can not just coexist, but elevate each other and why we should embrace our differences without forgetting the histories that shaped them.

Mon Petit Déjeuner 🥐

Johnnie Walker Black Ruby
Creme de Cassis
Luxardo Maraschino
Acid adjusted fresh orange juice
Black walnut bitters
4:1 saline solution
Red wine & croissant foam

Garnish - Mint sprig, maraschino cherry and sweetened croissant sand

It’s my belief that whisky cocktails throughout our history (for the most part) have been kept very clean, nonetheless hitting the marks we’re asking for. I wanted to flip this and create something that yes, has inspiration from the classic New York Sour, but opens up flavour and experience. A cocktail that shows common ingredients can be used to create something complex that pushes the boundaries.

Johnnie Walker Black Ruby allowed this drink to become what it is. Notes of the whisky are enhanced through the ingredients used, allowing it to stand on its own two feet and taste every level of depth it has to offer but working with the rest of the cocktail to enhance the flavours and take you on an experience you wouldn’t quite expect.

Looking at the New York Sour and working backwards, “Why hasn’t it changed?” “What can I change?”. Then looking to the baking world (being another passion of mine) why not smash these two together? I was throwing pastries around soon after. The foam has the dark profile you’d expect from cabernet sauvignon, but the buttery texture of biting into a pastry.

Blackcurrant liqueur pushes the forest berry profile throughout the drink and also is the main player in creating the elegant colour of the drink. With this, a mint sprig on top seems almost bold, but the complexity of this garnish comes from the croissant sand dusted on top.

A regal drink, pushing the boundaries of our thinking.

Inspired by the legend and life of Green Day front-man, Billie Joe Armstrong.

Billie is a character that has consistently and unapologetically been himself, no matter the circumstances. Whether the spotlight is on or off, he continues to push the boundary of what it means to be present on the world stage, which is a reflection of the mission Johnnie Walker pursues day-to-day.

Being the sole spirit in the Smoky Joe, Johnnie Walker Black Label is headlining the show. With support acts such as the hickory smoke complimenting the whole performance and elevating the notes of Black Label.

Billie’s story starts with his Mother, working in a classic American BBQ joint in California, which opened the door for Green Day to play their first show at said restaurant. I wanted to capture this memory, through the use of BBQ sauce, the senses that would have flowed throughout the restaurant at that time and shine a light on what was the beginning of Billie’s walk on the road to global recognition.

Personally, my inspiration for creating recipes and drinks sits well within the realm of the wacky and wonderful. Playing with flavours using ingredients unique to the palette within the cocktail world (in this instance, BBQ sauce) and the problem solving of it drives me to create cocktails that display my passion. A trait I believe goes hand-in-hand with the Johnnie Walker brand and allows us to keep walking forward. 🥃

Johnnie Walker Black - Back to Black

70ml Watermelon Juice Carbonated

This drink is inspired by Amy, but also one made for her to enjoy after a show. Deep and dark at its core yet finished with a hopeful sparkle. It celebrates how a singular voice can move a nation and leave a lasting cultural mark.

Strawberry, chosen from her country of origin. Represents the sweetness and vibrancy of a British summer. Bright, expressive and instantly recognisable. To capture her charisma on stage, yet beneath that freshness lies something darker; pomegranate and tomato water add depth and savoury truth, echoing the emotional weight of her lyrics. A subtle absinthe rinse evokes the dimply lit jazz bars that shaped her sound, while sparkling watermelon brings lift and movement, like applause spilling into the night.

• Toasted Thyme and Feta

I’m a big fan of the weird and wonderful so I wanted to make something that was simultaneously funky and eccentric yet delicious and mouth-watering.

I made a roasted red pepper, chilli and thyme syrup to bring forward the sweet, herbaceous and savoury notes in Black Ruby. This then inspired me to create a medeterranean-style salad-esque cocktail. Garnished with toasted thyme for a smoky treat on the nose and toasted feta for a creamy treat in the mouth that pairs with the drink wonderfully.

Whisky has had its thyme (ha, get it) with the short, dark drinks we all know and love so here’s my fruity little number.

At its heart Johnnie Walker Black Ruby, a bold expression shaped by PX and Oloroso seasoned casks alongside bourbon barrels. Its rich notes of dark fruit, soft smoke and vanilla form the foundation of the drink identity.

This Cocktail embodies the ethos of Johnnie Walker, to keep walking, challenge tradition and push beyond expectation. It is not a whisky as we know it, but whisky as it could become textural, immersive and modern.
