Let's Beer UK

Let's Beer UK Lucy and Alex. Two Certified Cicerones looking to build beer confidence through beer and food events Let’s Beer is a new venture based in Nottingham.

It’s a partnership between Lucy and Alex and we run super fun and engaging beer events. We’re hugely enthusiastic about beer, so much so we’ve passed exams in it! We’re really a couple of beer geeks who want to share our passion with you. We can take you through beer and its ingredients, why you are tasting what you do in beer, matching delicious beers with tasty food, help you learn about the myr

iad of beer styles and delve into beer history. See, we told you we were geeky! We put on events at venues across Nottingham and the East Midlands - check our socials for what’s coming up. We can also run tailored events for you and your friends, like a work outing or special celebration. We look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon

Lucy Simons has co-run The Abdication micropub in Nottingham since Aug 2014 and completed the Certified Cicerone programme (like a Beer Sommelier) in August 2022. Along with Nottingham Craft Beer Week, she organises Hop Idol, the Nottingham Home Brew competition and is a co-founder of Place to Brew home brew club (although weirdly doesn’t brew herself very often!). She didn’t really expect to work in beer, but now she’s here, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Alex Downham was the Beer Tutor at NottsDerby Wine School and ran their beer tastings. He completed his Certified Cicerone in January 2022 but before discovering his real passion in beer he was more of a wine guy and completed his WSET Level 2 qualification in 2018.

🍺Did you know only 14% of women drink beer regularly, compared to 50% men?

Beer Debunked, a social and educational event from No Half Measures Collective, aims to help equip local businesses and beer drinkers with insights to encourage a diverse and welcoming beer scene in our city to attract diverse talent and boost beer sales!

Open to everyone, the ‘Serious Beer Business’ session is ideal for representatives from breweries, bars and other hospitality settings, plus enthusiastic drinkers who would like to influence positive change within the beer industry.

In a keynote talk ‘Implementing Diversity Equality and Inclusion policies from the breweries to the end consumer’ Amelie Tassin from Women in Beer (Edinburgh) & Tipple Marketing will show how diversity impacts everyone. Small changes can make a massive difference and contribute to the success of breweries and beer businesses.

The first of two panel sessions looks at ‘Beer Competitions – Opportunities for Breweries, Judges and Drinkers’. Chaired by Natalya Watson, it will offer expert insights, exploring how breweries can gain brand recognition, market opportunities and valuable feedback through competitions.

Aspiring beer judges will learn about judging, the skills required and the rewards of engaging with the craft beer world at competition level. Drinkers will learn how to get involved in competitions and understand how to enhance their beer appreciation.

The second panel ‘Wellness and creating safe spaces in venues’ chaired by Murphy and Sons Steph Brindley, with representatives from across Nottingham’s Night-time economy, will raise awareness of initiatives to promote safety for women in venues and beer spaces, by hearing from those developing policy and practice as well as those managing venues and implementing them.

The session rounds off with an update from Catherine Webber on the brilliant work of on Tap CIC in celebrating the role of women in beer, boosting beer education and pushing for change in beer.
