We all have that one friend you keep saying would love Swing Soc… now is the time to finally bring them. Tonight (the 28th May), we’re hosting a relaxed social dance designed for friends, flatmates, partners, coursemates, family members, and all the people you’ve been trying to convince to come along all year.

We’ll kick things off with a 45-minute beginner class so absolutely no experience is needed, then settle into an evening of social dancing, good music, and a fuddle (feel free to bring snacks or treats to share!).

This week at Swing Soc we’re keeping things simple and welcoming for everyone, whether you’ve been coming all year or you’ve been thinking about it for a while!

Monday 27th April, 7–9pm
📍 Performing Arts Studio, Monica Partridge
Beginner Lindy + refreshers and recaps with Paul & Niamh

Thursday 30th April, 7–9pm
📍 Malone Atrium, Portland Building
Beginner Lindy + refreshers and recaps with Sam

And if you’ve been thinking… “is it too late to start?” it really isn’t! Swing is a social dance you can pick up quickly, and after just one class you’ll have enough to get out on the dance floor and actually enjoy it.

Even if you’re graduating soon, swing scenes exist all over the UK and beyond, so it’s something you can take with you. With so little time left this term, it’s kind of the perfect low-risk, high-reward thing to try.

New term, fresh start, same Swing Dance Soc ❤️

We are back, and we’re kicking things off with a week of beginner and refresher classes, perfect if you’re brand new or just want to get back into the swing of things. And yes, it is never too late in the year to start something new!

From there until 21st May, we’ll be wrapping up the year with classes across the styles you’ve loved, building confidence and bringing everything together. Then, from 26th May, we’re switching things up with social dances, relaxed games, movie nights, and fun activities, all leading up to a final farewell social to close out the term.

Happy Easter from all of us at Swing Dance Soc! 🐣💛 We hope you have a restful break and take this time to recharge.

We’ll be back on Monday, April 27th, with all your favourite classes (plus some beginner sessions). Bring your friends along, and if you’ve been thinking of joining for your final term, it’s never too late to jump in!

Missing dancing already or keen to keep moving over the break? Not sure what’s happening outside Nottingham? If you’d like help finding swing classes or socials near you, drop a message in the group chat or comment below. There are scenes all over the country, and we’ll help you find one!

And if there’s no local scene… teach your family the Shim Sham 😉

This week at Swing Soc we’ve got a fun mix of something new and something familiar.

On Monday (7–9pm), we’ll be in the Monica Partridge Performing Arts Studio for a Beginner West Coast Swing taster with Tom and Niamh. West Coast Swing is a smooth, modern partner dance known for its elastic connection and musicality, and you can dance it to loads of different music styles. If you’ve never tried it before, this is the perfect chance to give it a go in a relaxed, beginner-friendly class and see what it’s all about.

Then on Thursday (7–9pm), we are finally back in the Malone Atrium in the Portland Building after our long stint in ESLC, so make sure you head to Portland and not ESLC this week. We’ll be back there with our classic Lindy Hop class with Sam and Charlotte!
