Barratts Snooker Tournament

Barratts Snooker Tournament We run a Handicap Snooker Tournament held at Barratts Snooker Club each month for players of all abilities. Everybody is welcome. Anyone can win!!

Everyone stands a chance of winning as players of lesser ability receive healthy points starts! It is always played on a Sunday. We advise players to arrive before 10.15am so that the draw can take place at around 10.30am. Entry to the tournament is just £10. Players who lose their opening match are entered into a Plate competition. So everyone gets at least the very minimum of two matches to play

. We normally get a very good participation to each event so it makes for a great day's snooker and some nice prize money for the winner. We usually have a very good mix of keen beginners, local league players and young hopefuls and even tour professionals, so the whole gambit really. The Snooker community at Barratts prides itself on being friendly and welcoming and making longlasting friendships. Most regular entrants come from Northamptonshire but others from Leicester, Coventry and other Midlands areas, and we are always welcoming new faces. Thanks to Barratts' dedicated staff it can be a good family day too ... Barratts has entertainment for all the family. Ranging from table tennis, pool tables (English and American), dart boards and the game consoles in the gaming suite. Enjoy relaxed dining throughout the day with ample seating. Bar snacks, breakfasts and a comprehensive menu are served right through to 10pm, and the Sunday Carvery is also very popular. The Club has a fantastic bar and bar area with a plethora of plasma screens and a large screen ... so you won't miss anything that's happening whilst at Barratts! CARL HARRISON. Event 5 Winner!!
*************************************************************************
CARL HARRISON - EVENT 5 CHAMPION. Many congratulations to Carl who won our latest tournament here at Barratts' Club.
Carl who is a regular competitor in our events alongside his Son Brad was a deserving and popular winner on the day. Well done Carl!!
His route to success came by way of defeating Joe Lodato, Kevin Boyd, Dan Bishop, Biagio Sereno and in the final Mark Kelly.
Mark made the final by eliminating Phil Gimbert, Ryan Roberts and Antonio Antoniou and dropped only one frame in doing so!
The Final was a tight contest and neither player was giving much away. Carl took the first but Mark rallied in the next and with a cool head cleared to force a decider.
It was nip and tuck all the way in the deciding frame with the lead changing hands a couple of times, but not by many points so the outcome was in the balance throughout.
It eventually came down to a black ball finish and Carl potted a fantastic ball to win it! It was a very thin cut indeed on a tight table but he gathered his efforts and slotted it in. What a way to finish!
It was a very sporting affair and well done to both players for
providing us with a gripping final.
Elsewhere the plate competition was a high quality affair with some notable low handicapped players involved. Steve Evans emerged the winner though producing some excellent snooker in beating Darren Weeks, Michael Linford, Richie Matthews and in the final Martin Brierley. Up to the final Martin hadn't dropped a frame and Steve had only dropped one so something had to give. It was a really good match and Steve raised his game when he needed to seal an impressive 2-0 win. Well played Steve! and unlucky Martin.
The high break award went to former champion Kevin Mok who had a fine 59 effort against Adam Goff. Well done Kev!

Both events produced some excellent snooker and were a credit to the players involved. We welcomed seven new players again and we hope you all enjoyed your day here. We had a total of 29 entrants.
Thanks to everyone who entered our event.
Thanks also to those friends and family who came along to support and encourage, you also make the day what it is so many thanks!

ENRICO FORGIONE. Event 4 Winner!!
*************************************************************************
ENRICO FORGIONE - EVENT 4 CHAMPION. Well done to Daventry's Enrico who won our last Event at Barratts' Club in January.
Enrico who is a rising star on the Pool circuit came through some real tests on the day and showed great heart to come out the eventual winner.
His road to the final meant beating Leicester's young Edward Jones, Ben Pacan and also former champions Brett Gant and Ben Jackson. His opponent in the final was another ex champion in Adam Goff.
Adam was in superb form all day. After an initial bye he then accounted for Carl Harrison, and then in a cracker he beat Kevin Boyd. (Kevin had a 57 break to level the match after Adam hit an 89 to take the first). and in the semi he beat young Louis Antoniou. Adam was knocking in breaks all day and looked like he was on a mission to win.
The Final was a great encounter. Adam took the lead after an excellent first frame, where both players hardly missed. The standard continued throughout. Adam looked on the verge of winning until Enrico produced a pressure finish to level at 1-1. They seemed to be bringing the best out of each other. In the decider Adam built up a lead of 41 points before committing a foul in trying to lay a roll up snooker on the brown. This gave Enrico a chance and he grabbed it with both hands knocking in a timely 30 break to get to within just 7 points. With just the colours left the pressure started to tell and they both started to miss a couple of opportunities. However Enrico steadied himself to knock in a great pink to secure the win! Well done to both players for a great final and Congratulations to Enrico!
Elsewhere the plate competition was also of an excellent standard. The final was between previous event winners Dave Biggs and Ryan Roberts and it promised to be a good match up. Dave beat Antonio Antoniou and Martin Brierley en route and was playing well. Ryan had a tremendous break of 72! to beat Edward, he then beat Matt Goodson and then narrowly Richie Matthews. In the final Ryan was potting superbly well and Dave was playing some telling safety to stay in contention. Ryan won the first with a couple of excellent scoring visits. He also raced into a good lead in the next but he let Dave in and after a couple of fine opening pots Dave needed the clearance to level the match but he got an unfortunate bad contact after potting a great ball to come very bad on the yellow. It was a tricky shot but he took it on nevertheless only to miss it and hand Ryan his chance to win which he duly took. Well played to both players again! Congratulations to Ryan!
The High break award was won by Adam Goff who knocked in a brilliant 89 break. Well done Adam!
Both events produced some excellent snooker and were a credit to the players involved. We welcomed new players again and we hope you all enjoyed your day here. We had 28 entrants.
Thanks to everyone who entered our event.
Thanks also to those friends and family who came along to support and encourage, you also make the day what it is so many thanks!
It was a great day here at the Club. We hope you all enjoyed it! Thanks also to Brenda who made the Draw, and finally thanks to all the dedicated staff at Barratts who support you all and supply the refreshments.

DAVID SHORTT. Event 3 Winner!!
*************************************************************************
DAVID SHORTT - EVENT 3 CHAMPION. Many congratulations to local League player David who won the Pre Christmas Tournament at Barratts' Club recently. David who has always been noted for his excellent long potting added some steady break building and fine safety too to most deservedly win his first competition here at Barratts.
David's passage to the final came by beating Leicester youngster Edward Jones, and then beating no less than three former champions in Dave Biggs, Kevin Mok and Richie Matthews. David did it by dropping just two frames! His final opponent was Lohith who making only his 2nd appearance in the event also had a great day. Lohith beat Sam Maxted, Louis Antoniou, the event's highest ranked player and former champion Aaron Cahoon and then Louis' father Antonio.
Both semi's were gripping affairs and went to deciders but David and Lohith were not to be denied.
The final was tense as both players tried hard to quickly settle. David controlled the first and went ahead. He looked like wrapping up the match in the next until Lohith made a brilliant clearance to level matters. The decider was hard fought but David led throughout and never let Lohith back in really and was always ahead in the frame, he secured the title in fine fashion potting brilliantly as he had done all day. Well done to David! and hard lines to Lohith. Very well played to both.
Elsewhere the plate competition was equally as keenly fought. The final was contested by Paul Jackson and Pool tour player Dean Griffin. Both players had excellent runs and got stronger as the day wore on. Paul beat defending champ Harley, Edward Jones and Wayne James. Dean beat Henry Jones, Ben Pacan and former plate winner Carl Harrison. The final promised to be a close encounter and it was. Paul emerged the winner but Dean pushed him all the way. Well done to both players!
The High break award baton was passed from joint winner Edward Jones to his elder brother Henry on the day. Well done Henry! a great effort.
Both events produced some excellent snooker and were a credit to the players involved. We welcomed new players again and we hope you all enjoyed your day here. We had 31 entrants which just before Christmas was a brilliant turnout!
Thanks to everyone who entered our event.
Thanks also to those friends and family who came along to support and encourage, you also make the day what it is so many thanks!

HARLEY ALLEN. Event 2 Winner!!
*************************************************************************
HARLEY ALLEN - EVENT 2 CHAMPION. Congratulations to the club's Junior player Harley who played some superb snooker at Barratts Club to capture the November Handicap recently.. He showed a very high standard all day and was a most deserving winner.
After an initial bye he defeated the plate holder Carl Harrison, Brett Gant, Phil Gimbert and then in a great final Antonio Antoniou by 3-1. It was one of the best finals we have witnessed to date. Well done Harley and unlucky to Antonio.
Antonio also was in fine form on the day he got the better of previous champ Ben Jackson, Enrico Forgione, and in a classic semi talented youngster Bradley Harrison in a nail biting decider.
In the final Antonio continued in his fine vein of form but Harley was irrepressible. After Antonio had pulled one back Harley just raised his game again in very convincing fashion to sew up the final 3-1.
Elsewhere the plate competition was of a very high standard as we found former tournament winners Ryan Roberts, Dave Biggs, and Kevin Boyd involved after suffering surprising 1st round defeats. It was Ryan though who came through in the end. He knocked out Kevin then Dave and also Paul Jackson and in the final Ben Pacan without the loss of a frame. Well done Ryan!
The High break award last month was shared for the first time! Louis Antoniou and young Edward Jones from Leicester who was making his debut in the tournament finished joint top. Well done lads!
Both events produced some excellent snooker and were a credit to the players involved. We welcomed new players again and we hope you all enjoyed your day here.
Thanks to everyone who entered our first event.
Thanks also to those friends and family who came along to support and encourage, you also make the day what it is so many thanks!. It was a great day here at the Club. We hope you all enjoyed it! MIKO FORGIONE. Event 1 Winner!!
*************************************************************************
MIKO FORGIONE - EVENT 1 CHAMPION. Congratulations to Daventry player Miko who won his first tournament here last month at Barratts Club in the October Handicap. He showed a high level of consistency all day and was the deserving winner.
MIko was the highest ranked player here that Sunday and played some fine snooker along the way. He overcame a 63 point handicap in his first match ... then later went on to beat Kevin Mok, Dave Biseker, Phil Gimbert and in the final Dan Byrne to secure the first event of 2015-2016.
He survived two deciding frame matches, first to Kevin Mok then in the semi he fought back brilliantly against Phil Gimbert when it looked he might get beat, but with his back against the wall he rallied and scored a fine and very timely break of 80. Phil played his part too in that match, a good contest.
In the final Miko seemed to sense it was his day and beat Dan Byrne without dropping a frame. It was Dan's second appearance in a final so maybe it will be a case of 3rd time lucky for him! .. Well played Miko! and better luck next time Dan.

Elsewhere the plate competition was keenly contested as always. The last four was Ben Pacan v Carl Harrison and David Shortt against previous event champion Dave Biggs. Carl beat Ben without dropping a frame and David Shortt won by the same score against Dave Biggs. The final went all the way. In the decider David built up a small lead and was potting very well from distance but Carl dug deep and held his nerve brilliantly when it came to the colours to wrap up the win. Well done to Carl! and hard luck David. It was an excellent final.
The High break award was up for grabs with 3 or 4 in with a shout but Miko's 80 in his semi-final took the honours. Well done again!

Ben Jackson, Wayne James, Richie Matthews, Miko Forgione, Paul Jackson and Jamie Mok also had great starts winning 5 matches apiece. Jamie Mok in particular because he had a very slow start then improved dramatically winning the rest of his games and hitting the days highest break en route a magnificent 101!
Also very well done to Ben Pacan, Kevin Boyd and Carl Harrison who all rallied superbly to recover themselves and squeeze into the top four positions of their respective groups to remain in the Main Event.

DAY TWO. SUNDAY: KNOCKOUTS
*********************************************

MAIN EVENT
-----------------
SUNDAY started with our last 16 players in the Main Event. Ashley Everitt was the most impressive starter on the day. He firstly beat Carl Harrison 3-0 then knocked out Ben Jackson 3-1 to reach the semi final stage. Ben had earlier beaten his Dad, Paul by 3-1, Wayne James and Steve Evans also had convincing 3-1 wins to progress to the quarters. All other round 16 matches finished in 3-2 deciders! Harry Farrell bt. Miko Forgione, Kevin Boyd bt. Martin Brierley, Westley Cooper(Junior) bt. Jamie Mok and Ryan Roberts bt. John Miller.
In the Quarters we probably saw the match of the Festival between Steve Evans and talented teenager Harry Farrell. The match was of a high quality with Steve just edging past Harry by 3-2 courtesy of a thrilling and timely break of 61. Great match!
Kevin Boyd was involved in a classic too just beating youngster Westley Cooper (Junior) by 3-2. We will hear much more from Westley as he develops. An exciting talent for the game!
The last quarter final also went to the wire .. Ryan Roberts very narrowly beating Wayne James who enjoyed his best tournament to date.
The Semi's were a big contrast firstly Kevin Boyd surprised all by beating Steve Evans. Steve looked likely to be the Festival winner after beating Harry and was playing very strong indeed. However he never got going against improving Kevin who gamely took his chances to book his berth in the final. in the other Semi Ashley Everitt who was up to this point enjoying his best tournament ever seemed in trouble for the first time during the whole weekend. Locked at 2-2 with Ryan Roberts but over 20 points behind in the decider with just one red left it looked like he might finally get beat, but to Ashley's credit he dug deep and cleared to win a thriller 3-2.
The Final was a credit to both players and played in a great spirit. Kevin who had just kept improving on Sunday after only just making the cut the day before versus Ashley who was just so impressive throughout the whole tournament. It promised to be a contest to relish and it was! Kevin was the stronger player though and continued his fine momentum in the Final and emerged the victor by 3-1. Maybe after his heroics in the Semi it had perhaps just taken a bit too much out of Ashley.
In summary .... very well done to Kevin who was a thoroughly deserving winner!! ... and well played indeed to Ashley who had played so well also. A great final lads!

PLATE EVENT
------------------
SUNDAY'S Plate event was an exciting climax to the Festival. Harley Allen who surprising had struggled so badly on Saturday in the groups recovered really well to reach the final. In the final his opponent was Bertie Zuercher who was playing his first ever tournament! Bertie never settled really on Saturday .. but he used the occasion for experience and he used it wisely.
Bertie got his first win in tournament play against Dave Biggs 3-2 and then suddenly found new belief and beat Enrico Forgione 3-2 and then Antonio Antoniou by 3-0!
Harley started with 3-1 wins against David Ballard and Bradley Harrison and then really took off by beating Gary Matthews 3-0!
Both players deserve much credit for recovering so well and by getting to a final.
The final itself was close. At 1-1, Bertie seemed certain to lead 2-1 as Harley had left the black on but after both players had missed chances on it Harley finally sunk it to take the frame. He wrapped things up in the next for a 3-1 win!
Well done to both players!

FOOTNOTE
-----------------
WE had to abort the intended raffle on the Saturday as there was just so much to sort out on the day. However, the Pro Cue and champagne that was going to be raffled was eventually bought by Steve Evans. Thanks Steve for a terrific gesture!
As promised 10% of the sale was donated to MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT along with a kindly £10 donation by Dave Biggs. This together with my Tax gift aid brings the total donation to £68.75 to a charity I know is close to a lot of people's hearts. Thanks guys!!

THE Festival concluded our snooker for 2015 2016 season. The new season starts in September so the next monthly tournament here at Barratts will be soon advertised. We wish you all a great summer and look forward to seeing you all next season. Best wishes. (K.P.)

BEN JACKSON. Event 9 Winner!
*************************************************************************
BEN JACKSON - EVENT 9 CHAMPION. Congratulations to Barratts' Club Junior player BEN who in his first season of competitive snooker won the final event of this season on Sunday at Barratts Club. He defeated Neil Ward, Jamie Mok, Matthew Johnson and in the final his stablemate and former champion Harley Allen.
Ben dropped just one frame in reaching his first final and had played some excellent matchplay all day. Harley had got past David Shortt, Mark Cussans and reigning champ Adam Goff.
In the final it was a really close contest. Harley took the lead convincingly courtesy of some excellent long potting which kept seizing the initiative. Ben trailed in the next too but rallied in fine style to get bring the scores close. Harley then had a chance to clear but he very sportingly admitted to a foul of touching a ball, which wasn't detected. Fine sportsmanship! Ben cleared from there to level the match. In the decider Ben got on top early and although Harley kept battling, Ben responded each time to secure a deserved win. Well done Ben! and well played to Harley!
Ben has improved significantly as the season has progressed and his success is a measure of the hard work he has put into his game. Well done Ben! you deserve it.
The Junior players at the host club Barratts have all enjoyed a successful season and they continue to fulfill their promise. Well done lads, keep it up!
Elsewhere the days highest ranked player Miko Forgione from Daventry was our plate winner. Miko who has just returned to playing again after a long break from the game beat Neil Darling, Roger Hayes-Roome, Ryan Roberts and in the final Ben Pacan. Well done Miko!
Both events were keenly contested and were a credit to the players involved. We welcomed new players again and we hope you all enjoyed your day here.
Matthew Johnson had a great day. He not only enjoyed his best tournament to date, by reaching the semi-final he also captured the high break award. Well done Matt!

ADAM GOFF. Event 8 Winner!
*************************************************************************
ADAM GOFF - EVENT 8 CHAMPION. Congratulations to Barratts' Club Junior player Adam who claimed his 2nd success in the event this season by producing some sparkling snooker on the day to recapture the title at our recent handicap event.
He was really on form on the day and lost just 1 frame en route to lifting the trophy. After an initial bye, he then defeated Ben Jackson, England Masters player David Brown, Richie Matthews and Ben's Father Paul in an entertaining final.
Paul did brilliantly getting to the final and he was also celebrating his birthday! but that didn't stop him, and after getting a bye he went on to beat former champ Dave Biggs, Nuneaton's Carl Harrison, and Gavin York in a semi final deciding frame shoot out.
The final was an open affair with both players were going for their shots. Adam took the opener courtesy of his fine long potting which forced openings throughout. Paul rallied in the second but again it was Adam who had the final say to wrap up the frame for 2-0. It looked liked Adam was on course for a comfortable win at that stage but to his credit Paul went on the attack and his positive approach was rewarded 2-1. The fourth frame was in the balance for a long time but Adam was really on song and he potted the crucial balls to secure a 3-1 win. Well done Adam! and well played Paul.

Elsewhere defending champion Harley Allen recovered from losing a close first round match to Dave Biggs by winning the plate competition. He beat Kettering's Jamie Mok in the quarters, fast improving David Shortt in the semi and in a classic final he beat Coventry's talented youngster Sam Maxted by 3-2. It was quite a match!
Both events were keenly contested and were a credit to the players involved. The mix was really good again with our home based talented youngsters and visiting youngsters like Sam Maxted and Brad Harrison as always being complemented by many seasoned tournament players. David Brown and Ronnie Kralj were the highest ranked players and we welcomed new players too like Nigel Harris and Tony Crouch from Hertfordshire and also our many regular local league players who have supported the event all season. Thanks guys! The future of the event is in good hands.
The top break award on the day was made by the player of the day Adam, who slotted in a fine 71. Well done again!

HARLEY ALLEN. Event 7 Winner!
*************************************************************************
HARLEY ALLEN - EVENT 7 CHAMPION. Many congratulations to our Junior player and EASB Junior Regional Tour competitor Harley after he produced some excellent snooker on the day to lift the trophy for the 2nd time this season. He met and defeated fellow Junior Tour player Ryan Roberts in the final.
Both players did brilliantly getting there. Harley beat Ben Pacan from 0-2 down, afterwards Antonio Antoniou, Dave Ballard, and Adam Goff were then all beaten without Harley dropping a frame!. Ryan had just as tough a passage as he needed deciding frames to eliminate Jamie Mok and Gary Matthews. He then raised his game in great fashion and beat Mark Cussans and after a sterling performance in the semi he took out Q School prospect Ronnie Kralj.
Ronnie had earlier been at his brilliant best and fired in not one but three breaks of 92!
In the final Ryan took the initiative in the first and won the frame by a large margin. He also looked the more likely to take the second until Harley rallied and with a sense of relief tied the match at 1-1. This seemed to be a turning point! Harley had his belief restored and won frame 3 as Ryan missed a couple of chances. In the 4th Ryan fought hard and the match looked destined to go to a deciding frame. Harley came to the table behind on points and with the balls not easily placed and made an unlikely but brilliant clearance to steal the frame from Ryan and sew up the final by 3 frames to 1. Well done Harley! and hard luck Ryan. Congratulations to both players for providing a thrilling match.

Elsewhere Ben Jackson from Barratts won the plate competition. Ben found success by beating Nathan Meakins, Ritz Raikundalia, Louis Antoniou and Rob Contreras 2-0 in the final. Well done Ben!
Other notable performances came from Ben Jackson's Father Paul who had a big win against former champ Richie Matthews and then had a fine 47 in the quarter final despite losing a cracking match 3-2 to Adam Goff.
David Shortt had a very good day also and beat Rob, then former Tour Professional Paul Florence from Hertfordshire before falling narrowly 3-2 to rampant Ronnie Kralj.
Finally well done to Mark Cussans who reached the quarter finals of the main event for the first time! Mark played some super snooker along the way and also won the days high break award. Well done Mark!
Thanks to everyone who entered the Event on Sunday the turnout was very high again, and to those who came along to support. It was also nice to see so many family and friends of the players. It was a great day here at the Club. We hope you all enjoyed it! Thanks also to Brenda who made the Draw, and finally thanks to all the dedicated staff at Barratts who as ever ensured the day was a success.
