Surf Cafe - Statement
Seasons Greetings everyone.
We all hope you've all had an amazing time of it.
We noticed some surfers braving the swell this morning. WE SALUTE YOU!
Ok guys, here we go. We of course have noticed over the past few days the launch of the confusingly similarly named ‘Surfers Tynemouth’. We have to make this clear and crystal. ‘Surfers’ is NOT associated with ‘Tynemouth Surf café' in any way. It does now, however employ some of our former staff. For that, we bear zero grudges. Life is tough, and we sincerely hope that it all works out.
We took over an iconic traditional café, invested not only in its renovation, branding but crucially its culture and sense of community, the things that are nurtured and built over time and with care – we had been promised multiple times by the landlord the lease would be renewed & expanded even into more of the unoccupied building, the landlord has then become totally non-responsive, clearly with other plans in mind.
From the design and the music to the food, drink, merriment and our community work – including numerous beach cleans – the belief of our customers is at the heart and bedrock of everything we have achieved, together.
Genuine music stars have graced our venue because they believed in what we were doing and we want, more than anything, for that to continue and to also provide an ongoing platform for the artists of tomorrow.
A shout out goes to all of those who have been commenting on the 'Surfers' post who have been praising what we did at the venue over the years. We're sorry that your comments have been deleted and your voices silenced.
We are feeling a little hi-jacked, but these things make us stronger.
We WILL be back and a new location WILL be found.
The legacy of Surf Cafe shall continue and we send all the love and thanks for the support and the goodwill you have given us.
We appreciate it, guys. All of the very best for 2024 from, The Surf Cafe x
