πŸ† DOUBLE WINNERS IN TOUGH CONDITIONS πŸ†

Sunday's challenging conditions provided a stern test for the field, but two familiar faces emerged victorious in the Dagger Cup and Eric Sykes Cup.

πŸ† Dagger Cup (Nett)
Congratulations to Andy Livingstone, who claimed victory on countback after an incredibly competitive event saw no fewer than six players finish tied on 71 nett.

With the competition finely balanced, Andy produced a superb finish, playing the final four holes in one under par. This proved enough to separate him from the chasing pack and secure the trophy.

πŸ† Eric Sykes Cup (Scratch)
The scratch event belonged to Mike Copperwhite, who produced a superb round of level par 72 to win by an impressive eight shots.

Mike set the tone with a front nine of two under par, showing little regard for the difficult conditions and never allowing the field a route back into the contest.

Congratulations to both Andy and Mike on excellent performances and well-deserved victories. Two popular winners and a fitting reward for some outstanding golf. πŸ‘ πŸ’™β›³πŸ†

πŸ† PALAIRET TROPHY | ROUND 2 πŸ†

Stover booked their place in the next round of the prestigious Devon Palairet Trophy with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Great Torrington at Yelverton on Saturday.

The British weather was true to form, with driving rain and winds approaching 40mph providing a stern test for both sides. Despite the conditions, Yelverton presented the course in excellent condition and proved a superb venue for the match.

Great Torrington, semi-finalists in last year's competition, showed exactly why they are such a strong side and held the upper hand through the early stages. With several matches finely balanced entering the back nine, the Stover team, captained by Matt Lyne, had to dig deep.

As the pressure mounted, Stover started to turn the match around and eventually edged a closely contested encounter 3-2 to progress to the third round

A huge thank you to Great Torrington for a match played in excellent spirit throughout.

We would also like to thank our hosts, Yelverton Golf Club, for their warm welcome, outstanding course presentation and for accommodating both teams with practice rounds ahead of the fixture.

A special thank you to our First Team sponsors, Castle Hill Insolvency, for their continued support of the team throughout the season. Their backing is greatly appreciated by everyone involved.

Finally, thank you to the caddies and supporters who braved the elements to cheer the team on. Your support is always appreciated and never goes unnoticed. πŸ’™

Stover will now face either Exeter or Honiton in the third round on 5th July.

Everyone wants a little more distance off the tee, but finding it isn't always about swinging harder.

β›³ Tilt your spine
β›³ Widen your base
β›³ Hover the clubhead
β›³ Make a full shoulder turn
β›³ Clear your lead hip

Small changes can often make a big difference.

This Saturday sees Stover begin its 2026 Palairet Trophy campaign against Great Torrington.

The Palairet is Devon's premier men's knockout competition, bringing together the county's top clubs in a battle for one of amateur golf's most prestigious trophies.

Captained by Matt Lyne, Stover has reached the Finals Day in 3 of the last 4 years and will be hoping to make another strong run in 2026.

πŸ’™πŸ€ STOVER 4 – 3 WARREN πŸ€πŸ’™

Another excellent day of South Devon League golf at Stover, with the home side edging a closely fought contest against Warren by the narrowest of margins.

With the sun shining, the course presented in fantastic condition and a healthy crowd of supporters following the action throughout the day, it was a wonderful advert for team golf. The fairways were firm, the greens rolling beautifully and the course looked every bit as good as it played.

While several individual matches were won by comfortable margins for both sides, the overall result remained in the balance for much of the afternoon. As is often the case in SDL golf, every point proved crucial, and it was Stover who eventually secured a hard-earned 4-3 victory.

A special mention must go to the Stover support. Once again, members turned out in numbers to follow the matches, cheer on the players and create a superb atmosphere around the course. From those walking the fairways to those gathering around the closing holes, the backing our teams receive is second to none and genuinely appreciated by every player who pulls on a Stover shirt.

Credit also to Damon and the Warren team, who competed throughout in the true spirit of the South Devon League. The matches were played competitively but with great sportsmanship, and we wish Warren every success for the remainder of the season.

The victory moves Stover into a share of 2nd place in the league table and sets up a fascinating next fixture away to fellow second placed team Churston on 13th June.

We would also like to thank our First Team sponsors, Castle Hill Insolvency, for their continued support throughout the season. Their backing plays an important role in helping the team compete and represent Stover Golf Club across the South Devon League campaign.

πŸ“Š Result: Stover 4 – 3 Warren
πŸ“ League Position: Joint 2nd
πŸ—“οΈ Next Match: Churston (Away) – 13th June

πŸ‘ Well played to both teams and thank you once again to everyone who came out to support the white shirts.

πŸ† DEVON BOYS CHAMPION! πŸ†

What a remarkable week for Stover Junior Brook-Tyler Mitchelmore, who has capped an incredible half-term by becoming the 2026 Devon Boys Gross Champion.

Competing against the county's best junior golfers at the Devon Boys Championships, Brook-Tyler produced outstanding golf to lift one of the most prestigious titles in Devon junior golf. He also finished tied 1st in the overall nett competition with his gross 69 and 73 giving him a nett total of -2.

As if that wasn't enough, earlier in the week Brook-Tyler had already secured his place in the National Schools Finals at Kedleston Park, Derbyshire.

After qualifying through the Devon Schools Championship hosted at Stover, Brook-Tyler and fellow Stover Junior Callum Cogavin progressed to the South West Regional Finals at Came Down Golf Club.

Following 27 gruelling holes in challenging conditions, Brook-Tyler finished 6th overall to earn his place on the national stage. πŸ‘

Callum also enjoyed an outstanding week. At the Devon Boys Championships he finished tied 2nd in the Gross Championship and tied 3rd in the overall nett event, with the pair securing 2nd places across both the Gross and Nett Under-18 categories.

The success continued across the Stover junior section:

⭐ Freddie Gribble – 3rd place representing Devon Under-14s at South West Boys Week, plus 5th Nett and 4th Gross in the Devon Boys Under-14 category.

⭐ Harrison Grainger – 2nd place in the Under-12 Boys Championship.

⭐ Mia Johnstone-Davis – 3rd place in both the Gross and Nett Under-15 Girls Championships.

To see Stover players competing β€” and winning β€” at county, regional and national level is a huge credit to the hard work of our juniors, their families and everyone involved in junior golf at the club.

πŸ† Congratulations to all our juniors, and a special well done to Brook-Tyler Mitchelmore, 2026 Devon Boys Gross Champion and National Schools Finalist.

The future is incredibly bright. β›³

β›³ A Memorable Day with Christine Langford at Stover Golf Club

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Christine Langford to Stover Golf Club for a fantastic day of coaching, on-course tuition and an evening dinner and talk hosted by our Ladies Captain, Sarah Hoff.

Christine, one of the founding members of the Ladies European Tour and an Advanced Fellow of the PGA, shared a wealth of knowledge throughout the day.

From practical coaching tips on the practice ground to course management insights out on the course, members were treated to a unique opportunity to learn from one of the most respected figures in the game.

The day concluded with a superb dinner and after-dinner talk, where Christine entertained guests with stories and experiences gathered across more than five decades in professional golf.

A huge thank you to Christine for spending the day with us, to Sarah Hoff for organising such a successful event, and to everyone who attended and helped make it such an enjoyable occasion.

We hope everyone left with a few new golfing ideas and plenty of memories from a truly special day at Stover.
