Newquay Rowing Club-Cornwall The Home of Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing Established in 1921 Newquay Rowing Club is the oldest club on the gig rowing circuit.

We are the proud owners of 8 traditional wooden gigs, including the Newquay - built in 1812 and believed to be the oldest traditional rowing boat in regular use. We are also fortunate to have a fantastic clubhouse with one of the best views you could ever ask for. Alongside all of that rowing the club is fortunate to have a very lively social side, playing host to darts, euchre and pool leagues every week and live music every saturday night.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of one of our founder members - John Bawden.

John passed away peacefully at home on Monday following a brave battle with Cancer.

He has been involved with our club for over 60 years as a rower, coxswain, secretary, treasurer, commodore and trustee of the Gigs.

‘From the Scillies to the Serpentine from New York to North Quay starter, he’s been there & done it!’

A lifelong member whose knowledge and expertise of the Gigs will be truly missed not just in Newquay but throughout the county.

We send our condolences to family & friends during these difficult times 🙏
