At 2:30am this morning, the doors closed for the very last time for myself, Brooke, and our little family at The Star, Lidgate.
As I locked those doors and the music faded for the final time, the reality of it all finally hit me. A chapter of our lives that we poured our hearts and souls into has come to an end.
When we arrived on 9th June 2025, we came with hopes, dreams, and excitement for the future. We never imagined that just 12 months later we would be saying goodbye. What started as a dream became our home, our livelihood, and a huge part of our lives.
The people of Lidgate welcomed us from day one. You supported us through the good days and the difficult ones, shared laughs with us, celebrated with us, and made us feel like we truly belonged. For that, we will be forever grateful.
To every single person who walked through our doors, bought a drink, attended an event, stopped for a chat, or simply supported us in any way — thank you. You helped create memories that our family will carry with us forever.
The hardest part of all this is knowing that despite how much we loved it, sometimes love alone isn’t enough. We gave everything we had to make it work, and walking away is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do.
Most of all, I want to thank my wife, Brooke. This was never her dream — it was mine. Yet she packed up her life in Essex, moved our family here, stood beside me through every challenge, every worry, every long day and sleepless night, and never stopped supporting me. I will never be able to thank her enough for believing in me and helping me chase a dream that ultimately slipped through our fingers.
As I stood there playing our final song, a friend from the village said, “This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later.”
I hope they’re right.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making us feel part of something special. We may be leaving The Star behind, but we will never forget the people who made it feel like home.
Goodbye, The Star.
With love,
Alex, Brooke, and family
