Ladies Golf Section Centenary 1925-2025- Old Photos Needed
Plans are well underway to celebrate this milestone in the Club’s history, led by Vice Captain Angie Heads and her Centenary Committee.
We are trying to find photos of our lady golfers from the 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s, for a book and a small exhibition. Our own and local historical archives have been searched but we are so far unable to find any for these periods.
We are appealing to our golfing and local community in the hope that some of you may be related to or know of past early lady members. If there’s a chance you have any old photos from these periods of our amazing early lady golfers and would be willing to lend us some, this will be much appreciated.
You can see the names of our first committee below and also read the Ladies’ Honours Boards on our web page to find members from these periods. To view, please select "Read More".
*“A meeting of ladies interested in the formation of a golf club was held on Feb 2nd 1925 in the Ladies Room. There were 12 ladies present and Miss Robb was appointed Chairwoman pro-term. It was unanimously decided that we should make application to the Committee of the City of Newcastle Golf Club for the formation of a ladies’ section accepting the same conditions of play as prevailed previously. It was provisionally decided to make the annual subscription of 10/6. Mrs Hudson, Mrs Levinson, Mrs Craig and Miss Williams were appointed as Committee. Mrs Bowles was elected as Treasurer, Miss Robb, Secretary and Mrs Craig was elected as Captain. It was decided to ask Mrs Bainbridge to become President. This concluded the business of the meeting”. *
