Every year we hold at least one 'Have-a-go' session where you can come and try out Morris dancing, meet us and see whether it is for you. We encourage traditional musicians and have a thriving music section. We dance at pubs/weddings and special events/fetes and parades etc. We actively support businesses on the Romney Marsh and outside towns and villages by trying to make each stand an occasion.
We will normally bring at least 10-12 people to a stand and often many more. We uphold the Morris tradition which has been performed in England for well over 500 years. We are looking for men and women of all ages - providing that you are 18+ (as where we dance there is often beer nearby!). All we ask is that you are willing to uphold the tradition of Morris and can fit in with a group of people of all ages and walks of life. Squires:
23 Aug 2016 to 24 Apr 2022 - Dave Comley
24 Apr 2022 to 31 Jul 2023 - Judith Ruffhead
15 Oct 2023 to present - Colin Driver
Each year we democratically vote in a local charity to support via our collections etc. In the past years these have been:
2017 - CARM
2018 - Histio UK in honour of Evan Maguire
2019 - The Shepway Foodbank
2020-21 - Littlestone RNLI
2022-23 - Romney Marsh Community Hub
2024 - The St Mary in the Marsh Project Fund
2025 - Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS)
2026 - Motor Neurone Disease Association
If you are a VENUE (pub etc) in The Romney Marsh or surrounding towns and villages and would like us to come and dance (and sometimes sing/play) at your venue please message us. We generally do not charge for this. Likewise, if you would like us to dance at your wedding or special event, please get in touch (there could be a fee for this). If you are a CHARITY in the Romney Marsh or surrounding towns and villages and would like us to adopt your charity for a year then please get in touch. We vote for a new charity at the end of each season for the following year and nominations should be sent in by the end of August.
