Well… the weather certainly didn’t play ball ☔🏇

But we had an absolutely fabulous day at Bath Races.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and embraced the drizzle, the cold and the mist with suitably British stoicism 😂 Great company, plenty of laughs and a brilliant day out despite the inclement weather.

A special thank you to Gary for sending us this great set of photos — and to Colin too for capturing our slightly bedraggled but still smiling crew. ❤️

Following rave reviews from the very willing customers who’ve been taste-testing for us, our new Bacon, Brie & Cranberry Pinsa Romana is making its debut this evening. 🥓🧀

And because autumn simply isn’t autumn without it, our Baked Camembert is back on the menu too — topped with roasted walnuts, honey and cranberry, and served bubbling hot with crusty dripping bread for dipping. 🧀🍯

A little Carol update… 😂

Thank you to everyone who joined in and had a guess at why our new closing-time contraption is called Carol.

We did have someone get both reasons right…

🎉 Congratulations Angela Pitcher!

Carol is, of course, a nod to Carol Vorderman — partly because of her fabulous hourglass figure, and partly because of Countdown… with our Carol now helping us count down to closing time. 😂

And of course, a little affectionate nod to the real Carol Vorderman — a Bristol local too. We hope she’ll forgive us for borrowing the name. ❤️

🐎 BATH RACES — SHALL WE GET A BIGGER COACH? 🥂

Well… this has proved rather popular! ❤️

We’ve now had more people wanting to join our Downing’s day at Bath Races than our planned coach can accommodate — and we already have a waiting list.

So, before we confirm the coach, we’re looking at whether we can go bigger and take a few more of you with us! 🚌

If you missed out first time around and would like to join us, please let us know by the end of Sunday.

We’ll then decide which size coach to book. Once confirmed, we’ll contact everyone for payment to secure their place.

It should be a fabulous day out — welcome sangria & croissant at Downing’s, coach to Bath, racecourse entry, a pint or house w**e, coach home and then back to Downing’s afterwards, with Geoff firing up the Pinsa oven! 🥂🐎🍕

We’re going to have a little fun with this one…

We’ve just purchased this rather magnificent contraption to help gently encourage our very much-loved guests to leave after last orders. 😂

Naturally, we’ve named her Carol.

But WHY? 👀

That’s your challenge!

We choose "Carol" for two reasons. If you can tell us both reasons (they are linked) why you think she’s called Carol ... the winner will receive:

🇬🇷 A Bouyiourdi for two
🍷 Two glasses of Greek Gikas w**e

If there is more than one correct answer you will go into that "hat".

We normally only serve the Gikas by the bottle, but paired with the Bouyiourdi it is an absolute match made in heaven — so we’re making an exception for this one.
