Tonight is a bit of a bittersweet one for us at The OC, as Abbie works her last Darts & Dominoes night before heading off to university.

Abbie was already part of the team before the pub changed hands. She started out working in the kitchen, worked her way up to behind the bar and then chose to stay on with us when Katie took over. We’re incredibly glad she did.

She has become such a big part of The OC and is genuinely one of the hardest workers you could ask for. Abbie simply cannot stand still if there is something that needs doing. If the bar is quiet, she’ll find something to clean, clear, tidy or sort without ever needing to be asked.

And she does it all with a smile on her face.

She gets on with absolutely everyone and I think it’s fair to say everyone loves Abbie. Customers, regulars and the rest of the team alike. She’s just one of those people you genuinely enjoy having around.

When you run a pub, the people behind the bar become much more than just staff. You spend a ridiculous amount of time together, get through the crazy shifts together and before long they become part of the family. Abbie is definitely one of those people.

We’re incredibly proud of her for taking this next step. As much as we’d quite happily keep her here, it’s time for her to go off, enjoy university and see where it takes her.

So tonight, the Meat Raffle is going into Abbie’s university fund and we’ll also have an Abbie Tip Jar on the bar for anyone who wants to chuck something in and send her off with a little extra spending money.

This is definitely farewell, not goodbye.

The door at The OC will always be open for you, Abbie, and there’ll always be a place behind the bar when you’re home.

Thank you for staying on this journey with us, for everything you’ve done for The OC and, most importantly, for just being Abbie.

Go and have the absolute best time at university. You deserve it.

After the crazy busy Kirkwood Pub Hop, the two real ales we put on from Saturday are no more.

Barncliffe Bitter has gone. Craven SPA has gone.

In came Craven Yorkshireman Bitter and Small World Beers Secret, and those also took a hammering.

If you’re wanting to try a pint of Small World Beers Secret, I’d get in sooner rather than later because it really doesn’t look like it’s going to hang around long.

The real ale drinkers were definitely out in force yesterday, making it a record day for real ale at The OC.

We’re already lining up the next casks in the cellar ready to go.

Onwards and upwards.

After the madness of yesterday, today is definitely a Sunday Chill Day at The OC.

We’re open from 2pm until 8pm for a much slower pace, a few good pints and a chance to recover from the Kirkwood Pub Hop.

The real ales took an absolute hammering yesterday, so there are a couple of fresh ones on the pumps too.

No big plans. No rushing about. Just a proper Sunday at the pub.

What a way to finish the Kirkwood Pub Hop.

By the time Billy got going, the whole pub was singing along and even the bar staff couldn’t resist joining in.

After a seriously busy shift, seeing everyone dancing, laughing and enjoying themselves behind the bar probably sums the night up better than we ever could.

A brilliant atmosphere, a brilliant crowd and a brilliant night supporting The Kirkwood.

Thank you to everyone who made the finishing party what it was. And a huge shout out again to Billy. What a star.

What a day.

A massive thank you to everyone who made yesterday’s Kirkwood Pub Hop such a brilliant one.

The first Pub Hoppers started arriving at The OC finishing line at around 3:30pm and from there it just kept getting busier and busier. It was fantastic to see so many people out supporting The Kirkwood and having a great day around Mirfield at the same time.

We were so busy last night that we didn’t even get chance to draw the raffle, so we’ll be getting that done today and announcing the winners.

A huge thank you to Billy too. I’m sure everyone who saw him will agree, he is an absolute star, especially for someone so young. He did a brilliant job keeping a very busy pub entertained.

And a massive thank you to the team behind the bar.

Millie, Abbie and Ben & Chloe worked incredibly hard all night and barely stopped.

A special mention also has to go to Chloe, her very first shift at The OC was yesterday. Talk about a baptism of fire. She was thrown straight into one of the busiest days we’ve had and absolutely smashed it.

Days like yesterday simply don’t happen without a good team behind the bar, so thank you to every one of them.

And of course, thank you to everyone who came through the doors, bought raffle tickets, donated, supported the food and drink on offer and helped make the finishing line such a brilliant atmosphere.

A very special day for a very special local charity.

The raffle prizes are looking brilliant for today’s Kirkwood Pub Hop.

A huge thank you to all the small businesses who have kindly donated prizes and helped us put this together. The support has been amazing and it really shows what our local community is all about.

We’ve had contributions from Tivoli Travel, Hansons Opticians, Reuben’s Deli, Jerk Stop, Singh 4 Supper, Greenside Fisheries, Absolutely Smashed, Yorkshire Makers, Taylors Mirfield and The OC, with prizes including vouchers, meals, sunglasses, hampers, a woodturning lesson, drinks and more.

Every prize donated helps us raise more money for The Kirkwood, so thank you to every business that has got behind it.

If you’re out on the Pub Hop today, make sure you grab some raffle tickets and take a look at what’s up for grabs.

We really do appreciate every single business that has contributed. You’ve all been brilliant.

The wait is over! Today we’re heading to Mirfield for The Kirkwood Pub Hop 2026, and we can’t wait for a brilliant day of walking, great company, fantastic local pubs and plenty of fun along the way!

To everyone taking part, have an amazing time, enjoy the route, look after each other and raise a glass to supporting The Kirkwood!
