HALLOWEEN SURVIVAL PLAN

You could spend tonight sitting in the dark, pretending you’re not home every time someone knocks.

Or you could come to The OC and actually not be home.

No hiding behind the sofa. No arguing over how many sweets count as “take one”. Just a drink, a warm pub and traditional Greek food from Cypriana Street Food from 5pm.

If you’re out trick or treating with the kids, call in for some food and a warm up. Kids welcome until 8pm.

If anyone asks, you were out buying more sweets.

ONE FROM THE BAR | Abbeydale Heathen 4.1%

This time we're heading to Sheffield for a b**r that's become something of a modern classic.

Abbeydale have been brewing in Sheffield since 1996 and are now a fully employee owned business. Heathen first appeared in 2016 as part of their Brewers' Emporium range, so this year marks its tenth birthday. Not bad going for a b**r in a world where new craft releases seem to appear every five minutes!
So what's it actually like?

Heathen is a 4.1% American Pale Ale brewed using Mosaic hops. Mosaic is known for producing some rather interesting flavours, particularly tropical fruits, citrus and even hints of blueberry. And Abbeydale certainly aren't shy about using it.
The b**r is packed with Mosaic hops, with even more added during dry hopping to bring out those fruity aromas.
The result is a refreshing pale ale with plenty of tropical character, a citrus bitterness and a lovely clean finish.

And here's something else worth mentioning.
Heathen is both gluten free and vegan.
We've made quite a commitment to gluten free b**r at The OC, with a dedicated gluten free keg line and a growing selection of cans. We don't believe anyone should have to settle for a poor selection just because they need or prefer gluten free b**r.
And Heathen is a great example of just how good it can be.

Cypriana Street Food are with us tonight and tomorrow, serving from 5pm until 8pm. Gyros, loaded wraps, halloumi fries and plenty more to get stuck into.

Leave the cooking to someone else tonight. Grab some food, settle in with a pint and enjoy your Friday.

GREEK FOOD AT THE OC

That’s Friday and Saturday tea sorted.

Cypriana Street Food are back this weekend, serving from 5pm to 8pm both nights.

Gyros, loaded wraps, crispy halloumi fries, loaded fries and plenty more. Proper Cypriot street food to get stuck into with a pint.

Get a few mates together, grab a table and let someone else do the cooking.

BONFIRE NIGHT AT THE OC
Saturday 7th November

Our Bonfire Night is now SOLD OUT. Thank you to everyone who has bought tickets.

If you’d like to join the waiting list, please send us a message. We’ll be in touch if any tickets become available.

For those joining us, here’s the running order.

4pm: Gates open. Entry strictly ticket only.
Around 5pm: Bonfire lighting.
6pm to 6:30pm: Fireworks.
6:30pm onwards: Food.
8pm: Tom and James live.

Food is included in your bonfire ticket, with pie and peas, sausage and chips or a vegetarian option.

To help us get the catering numbers right, please message us with how many people in your party would prefer each option, along with any dietary requirements. Your choices aren’t set in stone. It just helps us plan.

The MRV will be providing sparklers and running a raffle, with all proceeds going to local good causes. Please bring cash if you’d like to take part.

Our car park will be closed, so please walk where possible. If you need to drive, please park considerately and keep our neighbours’ driveways and access clear.

Children must be supervised at all times and leave no later than 9pm.

Tom and James is free to attend from 8pm, but due to capacity restrictions, priority will be given to those with bonfire tickets. Entry for anyone without a bonfire ticket will depend on space available.

We’re looking forward to a good night round the fire with you all.

A NEW BREWERY IN THE CELLAR

We’re welcoming Allendale Brew Co to The OC this week, with three of their b**rs heading into the cellar.

Based in a former lead smelting mill in Northumberland, this family run brewery has been brewing since 2006. This will be their first appearance at The OC.

HOP ON | 4.7%
A gluten free IPA with a fresh pine aroma, tropical fruit flavours and a lingering bitter finish. One for those who like a bit of bite in their pint.

PENNINE PALE | 4%
Allendale’s best selling pale ale. Light and easy drinking, with juicy citrus flavours and a balanced finish. If you enjoy a refreshing, hoppy pale, keep an eye out for this one.

RED SQUIRREL | 4%
A red ale brewed using British malt and hops. Expect a little nuttiness from the roasted malt, orange and berry notes, then a light, zesty finish.

There’s a good cause behind this one too. Allendale supports Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s red squirrel conservation work through sales of the b**r.

Three different b**rs and another brewery for us to get to know. That’s part of the fun of being a free house.

They’ll be coming onto the handpulls as the current b**rs run off. Keep an eye on our Real Ale Finder board to see what’s pouring.

We’re pleased to welcome Cypriana Street Food back to The OC this weekend, joining us for both Friday and Saturday.

Expect authentic Cypriot street food, freshly prepared with traditional flavours. Think gyros, loaded wraps, crispy halloumi fries, loaded fries and plenty more.
