A bar thatโs supporting the Safehaven campaign is opening up on Christmas Day to provide food, company and music to people who would otherwise spend the festive period alone โฅ
Figo's Bar on Linthorpe Road is owned by kind-hearted Middlesbrough-born Keshore, who said: โSome of the older people who come in the bar, they havenโt got family. They said to me โAre you open Christmas Day?โ I said no and they seemed really disappointed.
โI told my wife and daughter and she said โDad why donโt you open?โ So weโre doing it.
"Weโre going to open from 3pm โ 8pm on Christmas Day and put on hot turkey sandwiches, roasties and Yorkshire puddings - and of course weโll have plenty of music and a great atmosphere. Anyone whoโs on their own on Christmas Day is welcome to join us.โ
Reflecting on the town's Safehaven service which provides a warm and safe place in the bus station for those feeling vulnerable on a night out, Gigi said:
"Weโre really happy to support Safehaven, itโs a great service. We mainly cater to the 45 + age group and we donโt get many issues, but thereโs the odd occasion you might see someone walking past outside and you can see they need a bit of help โ so we can point them to Safehaven if theyโve had too much to drink or if theyโve lost their phone or something like that.โ
