MALDON & BLACKWATER WILDLIFE BEERS 2026

February – Golden Plover 3.7% ABV Golden Ale

Golden Plover breed on remote northern hills and moorland. In winter they fly south in search of more clement conditions and gather in flocks on fields and estuaries. There is a regular flock of several hundred that frequents the mud off Maldon Prom.
When they fly up, their golden feathering looks amazing as it spangles in the sunshine. Unfortunately for them, they are one of the favourite menu items for Peregrine Falcons. If you do see them fly up it could be because a Peregrine is looking for its lunch!
Besides looking great, Golden Plover have a wonderful, piping call that echoes across the winter landscape.

Golden Plover is an easy-drinking ale that lifts zesty orange and soft tropical notes from US hops Amarillo and Comet with a crisp, refreshing finish!
