Tomorrow is our monthly Repair Cafe at The Red Lion, and with Manningtree Earth Festival currently taking place, this is the perfect chance to remind you why repair is so important 💚

In a world where so many things are designed to be replaced, choosing to repair instead can make a real difference. Repairing helps reduce waste going to landfill, saves the energy and resources needed to manufacture new items, and keeps perfectly usable things in circulation for longer. It’s also a great way to reconnect with the value of the things we own and to share skills, knowledge, and community along the way 🌿

Whether it’s a broken toaster, torn clothing, loose bike brakes or something in need of a second life, bring it along and our volunteer fixers will do their best to help 🛠️

THIS THURSDAY: Ed Blunt and Katey Brooks! 🎶

Thursdays are the new Friday at The Red Lion, and we’ve got incredible live music with two acclaimed singer-songwriters presented by BiGiAM - Ed Blunt and Katey Brooks ⭐There are a limited number of tickets available via our website, so be sure to get yours early via the link in our bio to secure your seat at what’s set to be a brilliant evening!

Ed Blunt: Hailed by Rolling Stone for his “astonishing mastery of his craft”, Ed Blunt writes story songs that will both make you laugh and gently break your heart. Featured on BBC Radio and selected to play in all 620 Caffè Nero branches, his music blends folk, jazz and roots with a dry Randy Newman-esque wit.

Stumbling on an online songwriting camp during the Covid lockdown proved to be a turning point. Mentor Chris Difford (of Squeeze) discovered his talent for the first time, calling him a “quiet genius”, and since then, Ed has released two acclaimed albums - Over The Moon (2022) and Grown Up (2024).

Katey Brooks: Katey is an award winning singer, songwriter, producer. Growing up inside a cult, as a child Katey found refuge in song. Later, she travelled the world with her guitar on her back, writing everywhere from the Occupied West Bank to an abandoned Finnish island.

She has recorded with Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and Paloma Faith at Abbey Road for BBC Radio 2’s Children in Need single, and has shared bills with a host of big names including Cat Burns, Yola, Newton Faulkner and Mike and the Mechanics. She has played some of the world’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury, WOMAD, the 2012 Paralympics, the Cambridge Folk Festival and Australia’s National Folk Festival.

Brooks’ music has been supported by BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, 6music, Canada’s CBC, Jazz FM, and Amazing Radio, with her music featuring in the West End and film, which has earned her three Best Original Song awards at film festivals.
