It was great to hear MPs talk about the work of CRY at last night’s adjournment debate on Sudden Cardiac Death: Young People. Greg Smith MP called for this debate following the tragic death of his constituent Adam Ankers who died while playing a match for the Wycombe Wanderers Foundation’s Under-19 team. Supporting his family, Greg has highlighted in the chamber a number of requests to prevent future tragedies. Earlier this year CRY also provided a response to the Regulation 28 Report to Prevent Future Deaths.
He was joined by Michelle Scrogham MP for Barrow & Furness Chair of the Cardiac Risk in the Young APPG who stated “This is an issue that I care about deeply, both because of the impact on young people in Barrow and Furness, and because I have the privilege of serving as Chair for the APPG on cardiac risk in the young. I came to be Chair of the APPG after learning about the tragic loss of two Barrow and Furness residents, Wilson Shepherd and Vicky Parker.”
Other MPs joined in the debate and noted CRY and other families and their loved ones and efforts they make in their memory including screening: Peter Swallow, MP for Bracknell who spoke of Lewis Marsh; Sir Julian Lewis who spoke of Ryan Carter and Danny Gradidge; Tim Roca MP who spoke of Mia Jennings. Also contributing were Amanda Hack MP (former Chair of APPG) and Jim Shannon as well as a response from James Frith MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
