So it has been a few weeks since we last posted. Many of you will have heard the (correct) rumours that we are closing down and that this weekend will be the final orders.

It has been an incredible journey to have made - from nothing four years ago - to a multi award winning brewery with an Internationally renowned Brewster as well.

But there was just too much seasonality in West Dorset, and too many Micro-breweries (if we are honest) and we blinked first / second. We just COULD NOT make a living. We hope others will fare better.

So our tremendous Brewster Emma is now with the very nice people at Gyle59 Brewery in Thorncombe. Our bottle labelling machine is being well utilised by those fine folks at Town Mill Brewery, the test-kit has gone to Wexford in Ireland - and my wonderful 2.5BBL Brewkit is likely going to the Netherlands for the next chapter in it's life. Veel Geluck m'vriendje.

A big thank-you to everyone who supported us and believed in us over the past few years.

If you ever tried our beers - thank you! If you didn't then you missed out (but try one from the other guys mentioned above..)

Our final outing will be (to clear the final stock) at the Axe Vale Festival on 21/22 June. We will run a bar in the food tent. Come and say hello and share one of the last pints of Golden Cap Bitter or maybe a Mighty Blond / Black Pearl Porter etc..

Special thanks to Emma, Ben, Diana, Keith, Lorna, James, Sam, Alice, Grace, Alistair, Natalie, Rosa, Lily, Josh & Sam - and of course Karen who never put a foot wrong and promoted beer at every step!

The future?? Never say never, but just at the moment I need to go and do something else for a while.

It was always a giant leap - but for a few years it was a Mighty Hop too!

xx

Today is (finally) day. Roggenbier is a German style of beer, made with Malted Rye. Rye does bring a little colour to the beer, but mostly it is about flavour and some aroma.
It is designed to be another of the 'Cloudy' Beers, and so will take it's place in the 'Speciality' beer section - where you buy something to give yourself a treat! (but it won't be any more expensive!!)

We are charting the days progress with a Photo Album on FB too!

What a roller-coaster Christmas and New Year was. We ran out of several beers, met some terrific people at Christmas events and the cellar was flooded twice..

New beer news - We are very lucky to have hosted Beer Sommelier Sophie Atherton who designed a 5.5% American IPA before Christmas for us.

This beer has spent a couple of weeks conditioning and is now at the following pubs:
Teign Cellars, Newton Abbot
Bottle Inn, Marshwood.
Coming to the Volunteer Inn, Lyme Regis soon.

1629 was the year that historians discovered the American Settlers planted their first hops for beer purposes!

The 1629 IPA has 2 x American hops (Cluster and Pilgrim) giving a top to bottom sharp & spicey character. Medium bitterness and a lovely hoppy aroma.

It has also been entered into the prestigious Lyme Regis Beer Festival on April 5th 2014. (More info on that later)..

So Happy (Hoppy) New Year everyone, health and prosperity all round!

Cheers.
Mighty Hop Team.

Staying with the Christmas theme, the very first 2013 'Christmas Cracker' beer left the brewery today.
It is 4% with a gentle orange-bitterness and edge of spice with melon taste.
Available from all good off-licences and pubs in the locality. These are ideal stocking fillers in fact!.

We are going to: Dorset Day in the Houses of Parliament 12th November 2013

Dorset Food & Drink has been helping a Dorset MP to gather together a selection of the county’s fantastic food and delicious drink to showcase at the Houses of Parliament on the 12th November.

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and Poole has been behind the Dorset Day and looks forward to showing off what Dorset and its outstanding natural environment has to offer to visitors and investors. “I am really excited to be able to welcome so many great local producers and businesses to the Houses of Parliament. We have such a wide variety of fantastic produce in our county, along with stunning landscapes and lots to do. I want to show off all that Dorset has to offer and I know the day will be a real success.”

Katharine Wright of Dorset Food & Drink says, “We are really lucky to have a huge variety of amazing food and drink products and producers in Dorset - as diverse and distinctive as the outstanding landscape - delicious dairy products, meats, bakery goods, confectionery, wines, beers, and much much more - not to mention seafood from Dorset’s amazing coast!”

Dorset Food & Drink is a membership organisation launched in the summer by the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership to celebrate and promote local food producers and those that work with local food. Although less than a year old, its 56 business members have great collective plans for celebrating, supporting and above all tasting Dorset food & drink.
