THE REALITY FOR OUR PUB

Running a community pub should be something to be proud of — not a constant battle for survival. But right now, the cost increases hitting us are beyond anything hospitality has ever faced.

Here’s the truth:

📈 Our business rates are going up by more than double.
📈 Energy taxes increased again on already inflated bills
📈 Beer duty up – every pint costs more to pour
📈 Supplier price rises every quarter
📈 National wage increases we support in principle, but not funded
📈 Insurance premiums doubling/tripling
📈 Food costs up 20–30%
📈 Repairs and materials up 25%+
📈 VAT unchanged, leaving pubs at a constant disadvantage
📈 Compliance costs rising, inspections increasing, but no support

We’re not a pub with deep pockets —
we’re a community business, providing safe warm spaces, employing local people, supporting local charities, local events and vulnerable customers every week.

Yet every new tax and policy is squeezing pubs like ours closer to the edge.

This isn’t politics.
This is maths.

❌ You can’t keep raising taxes AND expect pubs to survive.
❌ You can’t keep increasing costs AND call us the heart of the community.
❌ You can’t demand more while giving nothing back.

We understand some pubs barring labour MPs, but quite frankly, if they ever deigned to come here, we couldn’t afford to turn away their custom, and we’d relish the opportunity to put our case. Anna Gelderd MP are you listening?!
