Head Chef Aaron Davey has officially been with us for a year 🎉
To celebrate, we asked you lovely lot to get nosy and send us some questions. From his favourite dishes, to steak preferences and career choices, here’s what Aaron told us 👇
Q: How long have you been a chef, and what made you choose it as a career?
A: I’ve been a chef for 21 years. It’s always been something I took an interest in when my mum was cooking, plus I love food.
Q: If you weren’t a chef, what would you be doing instead?
A: I’d probably have been a history teacher, as it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. Or, failing that, I’d be a professional beer taster 🤣
Q: How do you like your steak cooked?
A: It depends on the cut, but normally rare.
Q: What’s your favourite dish on the Summer Menu to cook?
A: Probably the swordfish & scallop curry. I love coconut curries, and it’s the most technical dish to make and get right. Also the seabass, as we name each one that’s ordered.
Q: What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
A: My girlfriend is Filipino, so I’ve tried many different things when visiting, but it would probably be goat’s brain.
Q: If someone is visiting The Butchers for the first time, what dish would you recommend?
A: A Mega Roast or a steak, as it’s what we’re best known for.
Q: What do you think keeps guests coming back to The Butchers?
A: Our friendly service. Our food is simple, done well, and isn’t too pretentious.
