Wax-sealed bottles can look intimidating, but opening them cleanly is all about technique.

Before departing to lead the sommelier team at 67 Pall Mall Bordeaux, Head Sommelier Clubroom Giacomo shares a quick guide to why some producers use wax seals, the difference between soft and hard wax, and how to open a wax-sealed bottle seamlessly.

Continuing our artwork series spotlighting the artists behind the exhibition at the Club, Konrad Bartelski’s photographic works capture some of the world’s most remote and extreme landscapes. Whether capturing shifting light over glaciated mountains, the silence of untouched snow, or the delicate balance between adventure and isolation, each image invites the viewer into landscapes that feel both powerful and contemplative.

If you’ve yet to explore the artworks, we invite you to do so on your next visit.

All works are available for purchase, with 20% of proceeds donated to the Sovereign Art Foundation.

To mark 50 years since the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting, our wine team has curated a special line-up for Members. 🍷

Rather than recreating a structured sit-down event, we’re putting the wines centre stage in a more immediate way - in the glass and by-the-glass.

From Sunday 24th May – 50 years to the day since the original tasting – we’ll be pouring a selection of wines while stocks last. After setting the scene with one Californian and one Burgundian Chardonnay, we’ll showcase most of the red wines that led to the California Cabernets famously outranking the Bordeaux big hitters back in 1976.

There’s no need to order the full flight - instead, choose from individual glasses, pairings, or create your own mix-and-match selection to decide which region prevails today...

When 67 goes golfing… 🏌️‍♂️

Last Saturday, a delegation of Members headed to Stoke Park, one of England’s premiere golfing estates. Our sporting Members were tee-d up for some healthy competition and very well-hydrated swings on the 7th hole courtesy of our Sommelier Max Melvin.

After an action-packed 18 holes, everyone sat down for a hard-earned lunch accompanied by a magnum of 2009 Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion Pessac Leognan. Our winners for the day walked away with both the prizes (congratulations!) and; more importantly, the bragging rights.

Few figures have shaped modern wine more than Michel Rolland.

Loved by some, criticised by others, he spent decades influencing the world’s most celebrated estates while redefining the taste of modern Bordeaux. But did he elevate terroir, or dilute it?

In the latest edition of Under the Surface, we explore his legacy and the controversy that followed him across continents.

How good are your blind tasting skills, really?

Yesterday, we put the latest winners of our Blind Tasting Challenge to the test in the first quarterly final of the year. Four wines. One judge. No labels. No second chances.

Contestants tasted through a line-up selected by Clubroom Head Sommelier Giacomo Apolloni before the bottles, and eventually the winner, were revealed. Congratulations to all 200+ participants who took part in the qualifying rounds, to those who made it to the final and especially to this quarter’s champion - Denman Chan!

Think you can do better? Details on the next round will be announced soon. Until then, Members are welcome to sharpen their skills in the Clubroom. 🍷

Last night, we welcomed Members and guests for a special preview of the Club’s latest artwork exhibition, hosted by curator Christina Makris alongside artists Tamsin Morse and Konrad Bartelski.

Now adorning the walls of the Club, Tamsin Morse’s works invite a closer look. Drawing on mythology, symbolism and contemporary life, her layered paintings blur the line between beauty and tension - capturing moments of vulnerability, ambition and human contradiction with striking colour and cinematic composition.

There’s an intimacy and emotional depth to the works that feels perfectly at home within the Club’s spaces, rewarding both contemplation and conversation over a glass (or two).

We invite Members to take a moment to explore the exhibition around the Club next time you visit. 🎨

All works are available for purchase, with 20% of proceeds donated to the Sovereign Art Foundation.

Not every path into wine starts in a cellar…

For Clubroom Sommelier Eric Li, it began in finance before evenings spent in East London wine bars quietly pulled him deeper into the world of wine. Fast forward and he finds himself in the Loire, moving through limestone caves, sharing bottles and conversations with the likes of Jean-Pierre Robinot, Alexandre Bain and Christian Tschida.

The second edition of our Chef’s Table took place on Wednesday, where we gave full creative licence to Executive Chef Dan Page and Head of Wine Operations Federico Moccia. The result?

An eight-course tasting menu, expertly paired and served in the intimate setting of the Wine Library, hosted by Regional General Manager Martijn Brouwer. Swipe to explore the full menu and highlights from the night.

We look forward to announcing the date of the third Chef's Table soon... 🍽🍷
