Meet our regulars

I’ve lived in Chessington my whole life. Literally grew up across the road from the North Star and went to St Paul’s Primary school growing up.

I’ve been a local plaster for nearly 30 years. Between the ages of 15 - 21 I was an apprentice. I continued this career and set up my own business at 22 - Procter Plastering Services.

I started drinking in the North Star in about the year 2000. I have known the pub very well for a long time. I drank elsewhere from 18-20. Coming into the year 2000 I tried the North Star since then I’ve stuck with it and not looked back. I’ve seen so many great team members come and go and they have always been fantastic.

This is also where I met my wife Becky in the North Star about 20 years ago. We now have two beautiful children together. When they were younger they frequented the North Star with me but not so much anymore - “dads too boring!”

I’ve always been a bit precious when it comes to my pint, I have a personal carling glass and all the team know this is mine and only mine. I swear it makes the carling taste even better!

During 2020 I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. 1 in 123 people in the UK live with Crohn’s or Colitis, and a staggering 25,000 more will be diagnosed this year alone.

This is why I am running 60 miles across the month of September. I know this doesn’t sound like a lot but when you are not usually a runner.. believe me it is! I have already raised over £2000 and I am gobsmacked at peoples generosity. Every mile I cover and every pound I raise, fuels life-changing support and drives progress towards a cure.

Paul was a huge part of making our Summer Fair what it was. He was there from start to finish and honestly such an asset in helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes.

Not only did he help bring the music to life, but he was just one of those people you could rely on to get stuck in and make things happen.

We genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better person to have involved in the day.

💗 WHAT A DAY! 💗

We are absolutely thrilled to share that our North Star Summer Fair raised an incredible £1,392.09 for Princess Alice Hospice! 🎉

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along, donated, played our games, visited the stalls, listened to the live music and helped make the day so special. 🥰

We also want to say a massive thank you to all of our amazing market holders and volunteers who gave up their time and helped make the fair happen. We couldn’t have done it without you! 💗

Most importantly, thank you to our wonderful community for coming together and helping us raise such an amazing amount for such an important local charity.

Meet our Regulars

I have moved through many different cities throughout my life. I was born in Nottingham and I travelled with my parents from Chesterfield, Yorkshire, Birmingham and then back to Nottingham for Art College. I moved around in store management at Marks and Spencer. Finally moving to head office and therefore London. I then went on to senior positions including managing director of other Retail chains. Then later on in my career I went onto consultancy. Having always been interested in birdwatching and conservation and to put something back at the end of my working life I worked for the wildlife trust. 9 years ago I retired at 61.

My wife, Pat bought me to Chessington in 1992. I tried all the pubs in Chessington but eventually settled on being a regular at the North Star about 14 ish years ago.

I love the North Star it is easily the best pub in Chessington. I do however never see the inside as I’m always in the garden hut. I’m a later evening drinker. I do really like the fact the North Star always has real ales on tap. (Particularly a pint of bass! - takes me back to my times in Nottingham)

I am known for my large collection of caps so people are surprised when they see I have a bald head! Possibly I am the only person in the pub who’s been hit by lightning.
