Hello wonderful wine lovers, we miss you!! We hope you’re all very well and basking in the knowledge that we’ve made it to March and the days are getting longer. We’re back after a brief hiatus in Australia visiting Paul’s family and exploring some great wine regions too (of course). Travel with a toddler is always interesting, so if you ever want tips, let us know!
So we’re back and cracking on with the new world of Burgess and Hall Wines. Are you missing our lovely wares? If so, we are delighted to let you know that we’re busy putting together a tasty little offer for you which will be in your inbox next week. We've got lots to celebrate, including our 6th Birthday!
Over the weekend of 8/9/10/11 Dec we have heaps of live music featuring our dear friend Casper Hoedemaekers and some of the finest musicians who've played in the arch over the years.
Thurs 8: our last ever Thursday Jazz session, Casper will be joined by guitarist Hannes Riepler (evening).
Fri 9: The wonderful Ffion Aynsley on vocals & guitar playing some classic pop, soul & blues (evening).
Sun 11 Dec: our final laid back jazz in the arch, Casper will be joined by our favourite pianist Aled Thomas (afternoon).
And then.. on our final weekend (15/16/17/28 Dec) we'll have some amazing treats to toast our closing with you.

*OUR WINE ARCH IS CLOSING*

This December, we’ll be celebrating our 6th birthday at Burgess & Hall Wines. It’s also the month that we’ll say a sad & very fond goodbye to our beloved wine arch. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision to come to, but it really is the right thing for us to do.

When we opened our arch 6 years ago, we couldn’t have foreseen what lay ahead for us, things are very different now. We’ve had many discussions about what’s the best type of business & life for us to lead with our young family, and late-night bar work isn’t compatible with this. We need to evolve to become stronger & this means a fresh start & the beginning of a new adventure; one which we hope you’ll join us on.

Yes, like all businesses, trading conditions are incredibly difficult right now with no relief in sight. Many of our costs have been rising at a frightening pace & we’ve just been through difficult & unsatisfactory rent negotiations. But these cost increases aren’t the main reason for our closure: it’s just made the right decision much clearer. We’re making this decision first & foremost for our family.

By freeing our business of these overheads, we’ll be able to focus our energy & investment on sourcing the most exciting wines that Europe (& beyond) has to offer. Buying these wines direct from producers & bringing them to you, along with the winemaker’s stories & guides to their regions.

We can’t stress enough that this is not us saying goodbye! Our arch has been such a special place because of the amazing community that’s at the heart of it; a community that we very much want to remain a part of. You can expect regular pop-ups, as well as frequent opportunities to taste & buy our wines. We’ll remain a very active part of the wonderful food & wine scene in our corner of East London.

We’ll be hosting lots of events before we close & we hope we’ll see you all over our final weeks in the arch. We (Paul, Rosamund & occasionally Sammy) will be present for the vast majority of hours until we close in late December & the welcome will be as warm as ever.

You, our customers & friends are incredible & we hope you’ll join us for our next chapter.

**Summer hours**

*PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND?*
Come and join us THIS Sunday (15 May) for some afternoon jazz vibes in our gorgeous wine arch. The doors will be flung open too so the tunes drift onto our sunny outside seating. Such a perfect way to while away the afternoon in the neighborhood.
This month Casper is being joined by a Burgess and Hall favourite, guitarist Andy Button. Andy's played with us a few times, and his vibe is always very well received. It's going to be lovely.
We'll have delicious wines by the glass, tasty fresh beer and the warmest welcome too.

An ode to our lovely neighbours:
Saturday is the closing party of and we're gutted! They opened a little over 4 years ago off the back of Karen's magical (If you know, you know), and Michael's fabulous supper clubs : what a great combination.
Together they created something so special that we all love very much, and are going to miss terribly. They have been such amazing neighbours, and great friends too. Our community will be sadder without them.
Dearest Karen and Michael, we're so excited for everything that awaits you, it's going to be fabulous, and we're looking forward to sharing many times ahead fuelled by delicious food & wine. Bonne chance friends!
