Our story

St. Mary’s Music Hall is an exciting live music and cultural space with a 300 capacity in the heart of Waltham Forest, north east London. Situated in a working 12th century church, St Mary’s in Walthamstow Village, the venue’s beautiful acoustic is complimented by a world class sound system. Our programming showcases the best in folk, jazz and contemporary world music through regular concerts, hosting artists like Maya Youseff, Seckou Keita, Martha Tilston and Soweto Kinch.

Less than 10 minutes walk from Walthamstow Central (overground and underground) and Wood Street Station (overground), as well as being close to many bus routes, the venue is easy to get to from other areas of London and beyond. We usually have a local pop up food stall serving delicious home cooked food, as well as a bar serving local craft beers, wines, prosecco and soft drinks.

St Mary’s Music Hall is part of the Music Halls Project which works with churches and other public places to expand their use to become performance venues, bringing world-class live music to the heart of the community. Each space is unique and is designed to be informed by the community within which it exists. Our other partners include St John’s Church in Leytonstone and Heath Street Church in Hampstead.

2019 sees Waltham Forest become the first London Borough of Culture - stay tuned for lots of exciting Music Halls plans as part of this!
