Perched between Stoney Street and Southwark Street, watching the hustle & bustle of the Borough Market just up the road, you’ll find The Southwark Tavern, a dog-friendly pub inviting you in with flavoursome pub dishes and chilled drinks. Though we’re now a favourite amongst locals and visitors, that very likely wasn’t the case back when our building was a prison – complete with claustrophobic cells – for people in debt. Don’t worry, you won’t have to look at us with concern over the top of your pint – these days, we’re all about sleek booths, comfortable seating and only the warmest of welcomes. That said, we’re still all about keeping people inside our walls with elegant oak-floored dining spaces perfect for events in need of a large group booking and Tuesday’s pub quiz, quaint wooden stools best paired with after-work drinks, and classic ornate windows for when you want to show off to outsiders with your private venue hire. If you’re feeling brave, you can also explore the London Bridge Experience – one of the UK’s scariest attractions – or, if you’d prefer your history without the horror, visit the fascinating Golden Hind, once captained by the famous Sir Francis Drake. Just be warned, between all of this and the nearby markets, you’d best not get yourself into debt.
