It would be rude not to support the launch of 'The Wick Book', since the first Wick Paper was born to coincide with our festival! 🙂

We hope you can join us this Thursday 4th December 2025, to do what we do best, 'Celebrate Art and Support Community!'. Hopefully a chance to reconnect with old and new faces from the Wick - can't wait to check out the book in print and bring back some special memories of this ever-changing landscape and ecosystem.

Here's a message from the Author and contributors:

"After 15 years of being in The Wick and what started off as a newspaper published to coincide with Hackney Wicked Festival now ends in a hardback book. A 160 page full colour, journey through pictures, art, people and personalities that I have met, exhibited, photographed and published over the years.
I'm very happy and proud to Invite you the launch and hope you like it on Thursday 4th December at the Fish Island Books pop-up at Unlock on the Canal.

*RSVP* to the launch event via: [luma.com/2p7xug1i](https://luma.com/2p7xug1i)

Pre-order your copies now via: [thewickbook.com](https://thewickbook.com/)

Join us for a celebratory drink on the release day of The Wick Book, where you can buy the very first hot-off-the-press copies, or pick up pre-ordered copies with an exclusive chance to have your book signed by a truly iconic local artist (more details to follow)...

The Wick Book is a 160-page hardback celebration of 15 years of culture, community & change in Hackney Wick, as told through the pages of The Wick newspaper.

The Wick Book is packed with powerful images (some never seen before) alongside fascinating stories and memories that capture the enormous transformation of Hackney Wick & Fish Island and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in the years before and after London 2012.

Please RSVP only if you are certain you will attend.

All proceeds from the sale of the book go towards ensuring a sustainable future for The Wick as a local print and digital community asset.

Welcome to the Wick… thanks to all the artists, creatives, venues, studios, galleries, spaces, places, people who we’ve co-created with since 2008 to put on HWED! Hope you all get a moment this weekend to enjoy the spirit of Hackney Wick past and present - we have no official events this year but on our anniversary weekend, we wanna appreciate the creative community and all the people who visited the studios and took part in making the madness that was Hackney WickED 🙌🏾

Big up Mai Nguyen Tri who is seen here by the station tonight doing what she does best, bringing dance, expression, playfulness and colour! 💫🌸💕 and the HWED billboard commission that Laura May Lewis brought to life - still here since 2013! Which is more than we can say of a lot of our beloved warehouses and yards… and peeps.

HWED had an abrupt end in the first lockdown; despite applying for funding and such, we were unsuccessful. We had some great ideas for some empty spaces even during the 'recovery' that didnt come to fruition. Then the website url got stolen, not for the first time!!! But just wondering... is there anyone out there? Is our co-created Open Studios and celebration of all art forms in the Wick missed? Or has the area just moved on so much, so far, that it's 'done'? Would you want to be part of a total DIY event again?

Hey WickERs, it's our WickED WeekEND Friday! Since 2008, our community has bustled, co-created, improvised, and today is usually a hive of activity across all the warehouses, galleries, venues and streets getting ready for the 6pm HWED launch party...! DIY, Do It Together - this is and has always been the spirit of Hackney WickED!

We hear that many fine things are planned this weekend across the Wick. So today and all weekend, celebrate the local community, share your work, your ideas, share your events, parties, creations and be the Hackney WickED you want to see.

"Since 2010, I have helped forge a path for other West African food entrepreneurs in the UK. That wasn’t necessarily my intention when I first cooked a vat of Peanut Butter Stew outside my front door to capitalise on an influx of hungry people during the Hackney Wicked Arts Festival in 2010."

Heartwarming article on Zoe's Ghana Kitchen in Good Housekeeping..!

We remember the pop up well in 2010 and brilliant work on the new cookbook - available for purchase here: https://www.zoesghanakitchen.co.uk/

Today would usually be the opening night of Hackney WickED DIY Open Studios 2020, our collective 11th edition.

But no.

Not this last weekend of July. Not this 2020.

Hackney WickED continues in the spirit of lockdown for now, whilst we gather our energies and ideas to manifest our contribution to the new world.

We are sad that we haven’t been able to come together and open doors of our studios, supoorting artists and creatives to be showcased and sell art. But we hope you agree this is not the time for Open Studios.

We will continue to support our partner venues around the Wick in reopening and have some very special ideas brewing for how we can co-create new WickED experiences.

The WickED will be back! Watch this (virtual) space…

We love you. Stay safe and free 🌿
