This man single-handedly inspired my love for Bollywood cinema and was the inspirationbehind — transporting me to worlds that still live rent-free in my imagination.

From Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna to Kalank — his films (and even his foray into TV and reality) shattered boundaries for me at every stage of my life. Whenever I felt boxed in or told my dreams were impossible, his stories reminded me they weren’t.

To meet him the night before my Bollywood-inspired Dishoom Diwali feels like the universe whispering to little Ryan: you are seen.
