I had a lovely afternoon at the launch of the first volume of Dickon Edwards' Diary At The Centre Of The Earth (1997 - 2007). I especially enjoyed the discussion - expertly hosted by Travis Elborough - which was both an interview with Dickon and a wider talk about diarists in general, with readings of diary entries by Samuel Pepys, Virginia Woolf and more. And a joy to reconnect with Dickon and to see some friendly faces who also appear on the pages of Dickon's diary. Thanks to Rob W for the invitation.

Wow, what an incredible night at Where Else? - the venue was packed, the crowd were super nice and really knew their stuff, and it was a pleasure to play Wire, Teenage Fanclub, Orange Juice and a ton of HDIF hits. And so lovely to see lots of friendly faces from back in the day. The night definitely had an air of Indietracks disco about it. Now I have a few hours sleep and then it's up in the morning to go to the Kent Magical Market in Faversham with my book. Onwards we go!

Another dive into my music press archive. This time, here's my review of Belle And Sebastian at QMU in Glasgow and the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, which ran in Melody Maker dated March 22nd, 1997. At this point we'd heard B&S, but no one had any idea what they looked like, as they hadn't issued any press shots featuring the band. Do forgive the excitable purple prose, but I was falling head over heels for a band that still means an awful lot to me almost 30 years later. Looking forward to seeing them in Dreamland tomorrow night.
